This conversation prompted me to speak to my colleague who's a federal lobbyist. He interfaces with U.S. Congressman/travels to D.C. quite often. Me on the other hand, I work with local elected officials. I wanted to get his perspective because I didn't fully understand the culture in which he works and the level of scrutiny in terms of appearance.

He mentioned that the environment is ULTRA conservative. And that most people, black or otherwise have to tone down their style; be it hair or clothes.

He's a Greek man and even he had to modify the way he styled his hair along with type of suits and ties he wore.

I said all that to say that I'm a little less offended about the hair thing.

That's a very good idea. :yep:
No, you're right, it does stink that we have to worry about wearing traditional styles when, for instance, hasidic jews who wear yarmulkes and the long curls at their temples hardly have to worry. I have to be fair though and note that, as I mentioned in my original post, criminal black men for whom cornrows are the hairstyle of choice have not helped us any.

We should take a page out of their book. Hasidic and other religious people wear thier uniforms and hair as prescribed by their religious rules and they don't seem to give a s$#t what anybody thinks or says. That's how I roll and that's how we should all roll. There is nothing wrong with wearing your hair in the texture that it grows out of your head. Sorry about the militant tone, but I sincerely belive that my hair is NOT the creator's first mistake.
