Honestly, I think it's a bad idea. Why don't you try transitioning without heat?

BTW, why is this thread rated one-star without any replies?

Hi, I don't think it's a good idea to flat iron that much because your natural hair might start staying straight.

Congrats on your decision to transition!!

I was just wondering that myself...Geez..:perplexed Anyway, I agree that flat-ironing once a week might be too much for your hair. If you decided to flat iron I would suggest using a good serum with a silk protein like Chi Silk Infusion that will protect your hair from the heat. There is a thread that talks about this. I use this when I flat iron my hair once a month and I never have any damage. HTH.

I agree with the other posters. Besides, how do you learn what products and styles work with your new hair if you're constantly straightening it? Going natural is so much more involved than simply growing out your relaxer! I didn't realize it myself but it really is a big change. If you still want your hair to be straight, you may not really want to transition.

Good luck!

Very nice post! :)

I actually attempted to transition the same way between October and December. But it was A LOT of work cuz my naps come in mad thick and coarse. I ended up slapping on a relaxer January 3rd. I was also worried about the damage I may have been doing to my hair, there's no way so much heat that often can do any good.

For me, it wasn't about wanting straight hair, I just didn't want to walk around with a 'fro with straight ends hanging off the end. So I thought I'll keep my hair 1 texture (straight) until I was finally ready to bc and rock the naps in all their glory ;) . Since I see now that I can't do this, I'm just going to wait til I reach my hair goals (cuz there's no way I'm cutting all this off now, I'm SO close) then start my transition with a bc or braids. But I would love to hear about other transitioning methods if there are any. Thanks for starting this thread Plenty!

I need to take that ticker down (for now)

I think it may be ok for you to transition this way, but it sounds like a lot of work. Maybe you should only flat iron every 2 weeks, and I say this because it is going to take much more heat to keep you new growth straight. Also, your hair texture will not be perfect because of the constant straightening, but if you intend to "transition" to a press, then this is probably ok.
