Know you need to change or stop in order to maximize your hair growth potential??

Shamefully, I can answer this question. "my name is determine and i'm a casual smoker and a casual drinker."

OMG..it's off my chest!!!! I damn well know that smoking and drinking are bad for your health much less hair growth but yet I continue to do it. Honestly though, I plan to get better with this, one day at a time, and kick these habits.

Oh yeah, I also plan to kick the flat ironing thing. I'm pretty much natural (since my self texturizer didn't change my hair much) but flat iron to see length because I have SO much shrinkage!!!! Also, I need to put more attention into my daughter's hair (2 of them) as their hair has been at shoulder length for approx. 3 years but now I realize why...growing and breaking...need to retain length.

Please everyone, I need your support as it was hard for me to post this in the first place.

Thanks in advance.

I don't drnk enough water and drink too much coffee.

I also can't keep my hands out of my hair.

You can do whatever you set your mind too. Change is not easy.

I'm a huge coffee drinker and don't exercise enough.

We all have our habits that can be tweaked.

Happy Hair Growing!!!

i need to moisturize more because my hair broke off cuz its soooo dry. i dont think i can achieve any length if my hair continues to be dry.

Determine3 I quit smoking 6 months ago. I know it has had a great improvement on my hair and my overall health. Everyday I take several deep breaths and enjoy the clear clean air floating through my lungs. If you want to quit please visit the site www.http://whyquit.com/whyquit/ This site is full of information and it make you face the reality. Often we love our cigarettes so much that we don't want to let go of our loyal buttts. It walks you through the three day detox -- "hell" and helps you with tips on making it after the detox period.

Thanks for posting this thread, we know we can have so much more if we make the necessary choices. I really want to exercise more. I know that exercising gets my blood flowing and makes my skin glow. I also want to work on being sexier. I've been a mom and a working professional, but I've let myself go as a woman. So watch out y'all, I'm going to be walking around my house in 4" pumps and fish net stockings and bend over to pick up anything that may drop at my husband’s feet. Sexy momma in the house.

I need to lay off sugar, fats like butter and oils, fried foods and flat iron with one sweep instead of two.

Determine, I've been and ex-smoker since October 17 and I can't believe I didn't do this much sooner. It definitely helps improve your circulation, which will help with your hair growth and retention. It's also good for your body overall.

Now put those squares down girl! :whip:

Hey everyone, thanks for the responses. It's nice to know i'm not the only one doing something I shouldn't be doing. I think my major goal for 2006 is to Not do anything I know I shouldn't be doing that's health related.

MSCOLWHITE- I'm gonna definately try this site out. Funny thing is, I find myself smoking for the drive to work and the drive home. Other than that, I can do without so it must be boredom or something.

Crysdon- congrats on kicking that bad habit. The funny thing is I know I can stop when i want to.........

Oh, 1 more thing. I know I need to start exercising more. I have been juggling weight gain and loss for the last 3 years!! Recently, I had so much success with the slim in 6 program and low carbing (I went from a size 9 to a 5 in 6 weeks) but then gave up all of that to grow my hair. Why can't I do both??? Maintain a good size (for me) and grow my hair. I'm going back to kicking the sugar, the extra carbs, the smokes and liquor. Dammit, I'll be a sexy mommy too:look:

Same here! Plus I need to get more regular trims so that I'm not chopping a lot of each time I go after going to long without one.

I need to drink more water, exercise more, keep my hands out of my hair, get more sleep, laugh more........ladies I could be here ALL day.;)

Too much SUGAR! I'm a baker and keep taste testing! I wished yall lived closer to eat all these cake, pies and tarts. ;)

I'm addicted to caffeine. My hair is growing well but sometimes I wonder how much better my results would be if I eliminated caffeine.

My vice is....

Grease... I know, I know....

I don't EVER use it on my scalp though!

Since I'm not using heat, and I love that "Yorkie" hairstyle  I mix up a bunch of grease, some Aloe Vera gel and smooth my edges back... AND I use a brush:p then wrap a scarf around it.... *sigh*

Hahah I did it tonight, scarfs on right now til i go out heheh....

I don't get nearly enough sleep. Like four hours on average.
I've been living on coffee and sunchips/McDonald's dollar menu for about two weeks.
I don't drink enough water.
I haven't used a scarve or pillow at night in a long while.
I'm too lazy to spray my braids with moisturizers every day.
I haven't taken any vitamins for months.

Must work on all these things for 2006.

ditto! And more protective styles so my ends will stop breaking off. And gentler and more frequent detangling. And what else lol...

I haven't been moisturizing my ends EVERY night like usual, I don't drink nearly enough water, and I got out of the habit of taking vitamins!

I need to stop being so lazy :ohwell: !! My hair would really take off again if I put more effort into it. To be honest, I haven't conditioned washed my hair in a week, and I usually do it every other day --- even in braids! Also, I've been slacking on the vitamins and moisture as well. I don't know what's wrong with me!?! I think it's because I've had a lot of new changes in my life and I just don't have the time, and also because I've been sick these past few weeks. Okay--- time to stop talking about it --- I'm off to condition wash my hair  !

I need to stop doing tiny tiny braids and stick with pencil size braids. Eat more fruits and veggies, and exercise.

I need to stop eating sugar. I am a diabetic and sugar just wreck havoc on my body. I am surprised I have as much hair as I have. I was at bra strap but now I am a couple of inches away. I need to exercise and eat healthy and start back taking my vits. I also need to start back with my baggie and phony pony. I really gain length when I was using the baggie.
