Is there any one that had short hair most of your life thinking it would not grow?

Re: Is there any one that had short hair most of your life thinking it would not grow

ladies I would like to thank all of you for your info. Sometimes I feel at 53, I should just let it be, but Noooo! I have the right to try to grow my hair long at any age. I wish I could fine more ladies my age on the forum that are trying to grow their hair and could give out some good tips. As you get older and your body change it will sometimes have a lot to do with slow growth. I hope some older ladies will read this and come on in and give me some input. Once again a big thank you too all.:yep::feedback:
My mom is your age. We're working on "retraining" the way she thinks, since she was always told her sister has the "good grade" of hair and she doesn't, even though my mom didn't get her first relaxer until she was in her 20s (her coworkers paid for it for her birthday one year, thinking they were doing her a favor I'm sure). After I started getting Dominican blowouts she started transitioning too, and she BC'd a month after me. The other day she told me she'd rather wear her hair curly than straight and I was floored. I think she is approaching APL now. I can't wait to go home this summer and get her to BSL with me, since she is convinced her hair won't grow that long. Hey, if she's never seen it, why would she think it?

my hair isn't long right now, but the longest i got it to was apl and the i cut it all off for a change. before that my hair couldn't grow past neck length when i was a little girl. i learned about deep conditioning, wet sets, limiting heat styling, stretching relaxer touch ups and how my hair benefited from those methods. i will say that there is nothing in a bottle that can make your hair grow, but there are some things that can prepare the scalp to make it possible. i am natural now, and i don't do much to my hair. i wash, dc, moisturize, and keep it moving. i detangle with my fingers

i am not in my fifties, but i think the key to healthy hair is having healthy hair practices, and a good diet. if you take medication, you really have to step up your water intake and nutrition game to replenish what is lost. don't give up just because of your age. there are plenty of women on this board in your age group that are having much success. i have a mother is 54 and she just doesn't seem to have to patience to care for her hair properly. she is just stuck in her ways. older women tend to prefer style over health of their hair. nowadays, they just throw a wig on, and keep steppin. but don't let that wig get snatched off! LOL! they are ready to fight to the death! LOL!

I'm not sure if this is the case.I'm in my 20'S and most of my friends and family prefer style over health. This has NOTHING to do with age,it has more to do with knowledge.Let's remember that most of us members used to do the same thing.

Yes, my hair has been chin length or less. I am proud of my growth after finding LHCF!

Yessir. I've been relaxed for about 9 years, and for more than seven of those nine years, my hair was at the length in my first siggy pic. After a little over a year and a half growing, it's at the length in the second pic.

No-one really told me that my hair couldn't grow longer. I just assumed it wouldn't. Now, I make no assumptions.
