Is there a way to swim w/o getting hair wet?

At all?

Is there some miracle swim cap out there that I don't know about? I've tried a lot of different ones and the water always soaks through somehow. :(

Wishful thinking. I tried everything and I do me ev-ery-THANG when I had the rascal in swim classes.

The best solution was to thoroughly wet my hair, apply a deep conditioner and THEN put on a swim cap (just to keep hair from getting in my way). Other than that, I couldn't find any way to keep my wig dry :mad2:

Ahh thank you. ;)

I wanted to straighten my hair and then get a trim but it's such a waste in a way (well the straightening part) if you're going to swim within a few days. (GRUMBLE). :ohwell:

You're welcome...sorry I didn't have any good news :)

Hi Phony,

I don't know if you're still looking at this thread. I was a competitive swimmer for many years and still swim for a workout once in a while. Webby is right keeping your hair dry is almost impossible, especially if your hair is freshly relaxed or blown straight. Just make sure you wet your hair, coat with conditioner and I also like to seal it oil to keep as much chlorine or salt water from being absorbed as possible. HTH :)

Be careful with putting conditioner in your hair before a swim because some water can get into the edges of your swim cap and the conditioner will flow down and go into your eyes. (Not pretty, know from experience)

Since you are going to have to wash you hair anyway, why use a swimming cap? Put your hair in a braid or ponytail, completely soak your hair with water b4 you get in the pool so not as much pool water will sink in and go.

Youch that sounds like it would be painful lol...hmm decisions decisions! :perplexed

yah, I took beginning swim classes this quarter: FUN but the hair situation..ugh! No swim cap exists that keeps out water, they just keep your hair from getting in your eyes and keep your head warm.I would wet my hair before getting into the pool and when I got back to the dorm, head STRAIGHT into the shower to wash out the chlorine (I would most often use CON, followed by either a deep condition with Humectress or Giovanni leave-in). My hair has survived the quarter pretty well. I never tired the conditioner idea but I'll use it tomorrow. :)

Aubrey Organics also makes a shampoo & conditioner set for swimmers esp. to wash out the chlorine and gunk, but I've never tried it.

I am like webby, when my daughter was taking swim lesson I tried everything. But I mixed a creme rinse condition and some dax on her ponytails and not only did it coat her hair and keep it from breaking but her hair was stronger than ever and it grew. Perhaps she just retained her length but it worked so well I do that to this day until she complains about too much grease on her hair (not scalp)
