I've never blown my roots straight after rollersetting my hair.
I learned from expert, Macherieamour that you can roll your hair in the "up" direction rather than the usual "down" direction. It gets the roots straighter.

Rolling up is rolling the hair like you are going to wear it in a flip (toward the top of your head) as opposed to down (toward your chin)

You have to constantly "pull and roll" to get your roots pretty straight.
