Is There A Way To Get Senegalese Twist With Smooth Roots? Should I Flat Iron First?

What do you mean exactly by "smooth" roots? Have you seen any examples of what you mean?
Whenever I've done my own (or anyone else's) Senegalese twists, it's the tension that makes the roots smooth. If you don't have adequate tension, the roots will puff up.
In the tutorial below (a very good one in my opinion), the braider uses Blue Magic and Let's Jam for shine/lubrication and hold, respectively.
I personally don't like to use products so close to the scalp, but they can help with the appearance of a smoother twist or braid.
It has also been my experience that the more closely your extension hair matches your real hair, the more realistic and neat your braid/twist will look.
The braider in the tutorial uses straight kanekolon hair, so I'd recommend that as well if your hair is mostly relaxed. Hope this helps!

Blow dry and a strong edge control. You won't be able to wash if you want to keep that look though.
