I believe so. I think it is tested up to 450 degrees.

Right, but I thought I read somewhere that it only works if the heat is at 450 degrees...

No it works even if you don't have any heat, it's seals in moisture and protects from heat. So feel free to use it at a lower temp, you'll get the same benefits.
