Is plastic surgery against the bible?

Oh Op...this is good. I always thought that I may have wanted to get a little work after having my babies. My image is important because I'm in the fashion business and I'm also married but I don't want to be vain either.

i think plastic surgery is okay as long as we don't get caught up in the vanity of it. like getting ten procedures in one day a la heidi montag.

You're fine. Read the Song of Solomon 4:7.

No...... but vanity is.

How does one know when he/she is being vain? To be honesty, I am looking at having a tummy tuck. After having twins I have abdominal diastasis. It is not going to go away with exercise. I have a very small frame and I am short, so it is quite noticeable on me if I don't hide it with the right clothes. I don't want to look pregnant when I'm not. I want to feel pretty and confident. I don't want my clothing options to be limited. A few weeks ago my husband's uncle looked down at my stomach and said, "What's going on here?" I said, "I guess I'm just getting fat." A few weeks later a woman at the make-up counter asked me when I was due. I can shrug off the comments, but there are times when the comments get to me. So, it could be said that I am getting a tummy tuck for vanity reasons. My health isn't in jeopardy over this, I just want to look good again.

By vain, it means Conceited. Putting one's self above another.

Let's look at Queen Esther. Compare her to Queen Vashti. Vashti was vain with her beauty, Esther was not. Esther had a humble spirit in comparision.

10 On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king,

11 To bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair to look on.

12 But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him------ Esther 1:10-12
.

The year of preparation for her marriage to the King was not for vanity (conceit) but for the purpose of pleasing her husband. Esther never forgot her purpose for married to the King. God was able to use her in all of her beauty.

mrselle... I don't think your reasons compare to Vashti's... :Rose:

Shimmie, thank you for your insight. BTW, I'm gonna need you to remove that picture in your signature. Hubby already said, "No more babies". LOL!!! Seeing that picture makes me want another one. That smile, those eyes.... :-)

Good question OP!

I think a lot of people will say yes (at least thats the vibe I get from some Christians-especially older ones) but I actually dont think theres anything wrong with it. Like with all things, it should be done in moderation and without excess. And I can't personally put a limit on whats excessive on someone else (I can have an opinion but I can't label it a sin).

When I'm done having kids I would definately consider a tummy tuck and a breast lift! LOL. Even when I lost 30 lbs, guuuurl this STOMACH...it was stubborn and still wont comlpletely leave!

In my mind its comparable to things like braces (which I had-purely cosmetic-and did not have anything to do with my health), just more invasive (which is a risk that should be considered long and hard as with any procedure).

My only concern is that I do not think young girls should have it done (I'd make the age limit like 22-25 or something wihtout parental consent). It's hard to explain but I feel like you should be a mature adult before you are able to have certain procedures done (kinda like they when they won't tie your tubes until you reach a certain age or have a certain number of kids). I also think there should be pre and post counseling.

Awwwww. thanks mrselle. That's my 'Little Man'. He'll be three this Thursday. Time flies. :cry4:

As for the adominoplasty (tummie tuck), I've considered the same, but my reasons are totally vain. I'm just being real, for ME... "Shimmie", personally. And to make matters worse, I have no shame. I just straight up spoke to the Lord, admitting it's my vanity. He [The Lord] laughed, of course

CoilyFields... I agree with your entire post. Especially about the young girls having cosmetic procedures. They should not be having breast augmentations, dierrierre implants, etc., just to be sexually competitive, which is truly what it is and indeed it's beyond vanity and it's not healthy for them mentally, as well as physically.

Regarding your braces, you were actually having a preventive measure done; as people get older their gums recede and shift which in many cases result in them needing dental procedures to correct it. Braces, are what I've always considered a healthy thing to do. I'm sure many doctors and the Lord would agree. :yep:

There is no scripture that says it's a sin per say, but it's all about your intent of it.

Paul said we should be more concerned of the inward adorning rather than the outer apperance. He did not say it was wrong but our focus should be more on our heart and spirit.

If you have someone who has a horrible attitude and it not pleasing in the sight of God but is looking to get some breast implants....:ohwell:. Those breasts will pass away with the rest of the world, but our soul is going to stand before God.
And this is goes back to the intent of things....someone may want to get some butt implants to look like Beyonce or JLO,but why? Is it so men will find us attractive or they can be "sexy"? Well the bible says God beautify the meek with salavation. The bible says Beauty is vain but a woman that fears the Lord shall be praised. As women we should never pursue or chase after beauty. I am not saying leave the house looking tore up, but our main objective is to make sure our heart is beautiful. Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.

It's all about why they want to get this done. A can't say a tummy tuck is wrong but if someone wants to get one so they can wear they bikini on the beach and look good....weeellllll...... :spinning:.

I always say...we got to acknowledge God in all our ways and He will direct our paths...

I see no difference between plastic surgery and weaves/ hair implants, false nails, false eyelashes or even chemical treatments to alter the natural hair... the why is the driving factor, not the what and that is God's job, no one else's.
