Is Oyin Hair Dew Really Moisturizing (for 4a To 4c Hair)?

Hey everyone, I was wondering what people think of this product for natural hair types 4a, 4b, 4c hair. I have tried lotion type moisturizing products (or leave ins) in the past and it hasn't done anything for my hair (they only worked on relaxed hair many years ago). I usually use thick buttery moisturizing creams (I love Oyin Whipped Pudding for that reason), because I felt it worked better on my hair thus far. I have been hearing about the Hair Dew being moisturizing; I really want to try it, but I am not sure if it will work out for my hair type. So, I am here looking to see is this product truly moisturizing for the 4s' hair type???

am I the only one who felt their hair felt stripped with this product? i hated the way it felt as i put it on my hair. Like it was pulling the moisture out. i ended up giving it away. i also didnt like the smell

I adore its performance: It's the first product that ever gave my hair long lasting moisture when I was going crazy trying to solve chronic dryness.

I so wish there was another scent option. I can't tolerate it, so I don't use it. It's an amazing moisturizer for a lot of folks.

Hair Dew is one of my HGs.
It performs well for me in different climates:
  • Brooklyn, Queens & the Bronx during winter storms (frigid temps/low dews)
  • Los Angeles in June (high temps/low dews)
  • Richmond & Charlotte in late spring (mild temps/mid dews)
  • Right now in Florida during hurricane season (heavy rains every.single.day, high temps/high dews)
I wish an unscented version was offered. Then it would be my sole leave-in/moisturizer.

I emailed and almost begged for an unscented version or an alternative scent. It was a "No, try adding fragrance until it's okay for you."

I just let it go.

She's losing money. If she released a less intense sugar berries scented dew, I would be in love. Oh well, she has too realize the fragrance is too strong. I had to breath in a paper bag for 2 minutes before my breathing returned to normal.

Here was the reply the team scent sent me. I'm sure she didn't mean to use coddling-feeling language, but if you are getting NUMEROUS requests, you might consider that something is up with the scent of your product!

Hi beautiful!

Thanks for contacting Oyin Handmade! Unscented Hair Dew is a request that we at times get from our honeys. Unfortunately, in our testing we've found that those lovely natural ingredients give great moisture but do not have the most appetizing natural scent.

additionally, some customers have chosen to add an essential oil to their product to 'cut' the fragrance. . . of course then one must worry about the scent you choose mixing well with the scent of the product; if you'd like to try this we'd definitely suggest separating out a dollop at a time and trying just a drop or two of the essential or fragrance oil of your choice until you arrive at something that is pleasing to you.

Thanks again for writing, we're happy that you've found treats that make you and your family's hair happy!

o_O Adding scented oils to Oyin Hair Dew would be the equivalent of adding gasoline to a fire :badidea: . Sometimes companies should listen to their customers. Especially if it's a frequent reoccurring complaint. Qhemet changed the scent of the Moringa Tree Conditioning Ghee because she listened to customer feedback.

Agreed. That is EXACTLY why I let it go. I imagined myself adding my peaches and cream "essential oil" (the only such thing I own) to Oyin Hair Dew, and the thought alone made me wretch momentarily.

The company wins: I am no longer a customer. I guess they sell enough already. Not everything is for everyone, I guess. There are a LOT of products from other brands I likely would never have trialed had I been fully satisfied with Oyin Hair Dew, so I just try to look at it like that: I discovered great oils because of it. It's all good. :yep:

Why didn't you guys like the idea of adding a fragrance to this product? I thought that it might be a good idea to hide its ugly smell.

First time I got it, I thought that I had received a rancid batch. I thought it had gone bad in transit. I bought another one a few days ago and it smells exactly the same

I'm worried that adding fragrance will be akin to having a teenager that just played 2 hours of basketball spray on cologne instead of showering.

But since you have TWO bottles . . . please experiment. If you find a solution, please let me know!
