is mineral oil really bad?

For some of us, it's bad because it tends to weigh your down and it drys it out after a few days and may cause breakage.

One of my holy grail products has mineral oil in it: Silicon Mix DC...it's the best DC I've ever used

I don't go looking for products with mineral oil in them, but I don't let that ingredient stop me from trying a product either.

It really just depends

I mean what's wrong with it?

There's too many other oils that have additional benefits for the health of your hair strand. For example, penetrating oils like EVCO and Avocado oil. Also, there's oils that contain ceramides which help nourish your strands help with your CMC (hair glue), such as, GSO, Safflower, Sunflower, Rice Bran and Wheat Germ oils.

The question should be; why would you use mineral oil in your lovely locks when there's better options and your educated about it?

OP, there's exceptions i.e. Mizani H20 Intense, which is a well formulated product that has mineral oil. Along with others. Up thread someone mentioned Silicon Mix, which I've never tried.

The bottom line is Do You! If you and your lovely locks are thriving and your products contain mineral oil...who cares?

While I'm not a proponent of Mineral Oil, and tend not to use them on a regular, I do use the Mizani Intensive Rx @MileHighDiva referenced especially a week or so post relaxer.

I also have a Taliah Waajid Hair Pomade in my Stash and use occasionally for itchy scalp that has MO somewhere in its list of ingredients.

It's not something I go out of my way to purchase.

Same with Cones. I try not to buy cones, but I'm sure I have certain things in my Stash I use that may contain a cone or 2.

ETA:

Oh, you said what's wrong with it? = It tends to build up on your hair/scalp, blocks moisture from entering and hard to remove. Could clog pores etc......

It might be good for sealing in moisture on your ends, but you may have to use a clarifier if you experience build up.

Mineral oil can really build up on the hair and be difficult to remove.

I would recommend it though if you have a severe tangling problem and need to get the knots out asap. Baby oil, which is mineral oil and fragrance, is one of the most slippery chemicals there are. It will get the comb though your hair seriously.

I will say though that last year when my grandma was in the hospital for 3 months and had the most severe scalp buildup, thinning from chemotherapy and itchiness and otherwise terrible hair and scalp condition, the doctor told her to use baby oil (pretty much pure mineral oil) on her scalp to bring its health back.

It really worked. I liberally put baby oil on her hair and washed it every few weeks and it's growing in very thick and healthy now. Her hair and scalp look great.

I just asked because all my life i've been using products with mineral oil in it, and didn't know about it until I read numerous website that says its not good for hair.
