Is it worth the wait?????

Ladies, I know many of you try to wait for long periods of time in b/w relaxers, but how d o you feel about hair that is being put in "danger" as a result?
My hair is underprocessed, and while its combable, there is still stress being put on the area where the two "textures" meet. Mind you it has only been 2 weeks since my last touch up. Normally, I would at least try to go 8-10 weeks, but i'm seriously considering 4. The breakage i would experince in that extra time would well negate the positive benefits of waiting it out.
I was even considering going over some parts today with a relaxer /images/graemlins/shocked.gif but i decided to do an aphogee treatment to ward off as much breakage as i can, followed by a moisturizing condit. and rollersetting (just for practice) and wearing my hair in cornrows for two weeks straight. spritzing with water and leave in, redoing them every week. (then my bf comes back, ya'll know how that goes /images/graemlins/wink.gif) so i'll have my hair out in something /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

now im rambling... but i realy just wanted to know if anyonehas gone against there better judgement and relaxwed wayy ahead of time, and what ttreatment did you give your hair? thanks

Beane, I'm in the same situation.

I underprocessed my hair - again!!! I so hate that. It's been three weeks since my last touch up. So I understand what you are saying about the stress on the two textures, but you want to make sure that you don't overprocess your hair. Believe me, we are much better off with an underprocess, puffy hair and all.

I have an appointment for March 15th which would put me at five weeks. But I am seriously considering changing this because I just won't have enough of outgrowth to touch up at that time and it's just way too soon for me.

What I have been doing is rollersetting my hair on small rollers to make it real curly and finger combing to hide the two textures. This weekend, I want to get a strawset and that should last for at least a week or two.

In my opinion, you should wait longer then the two weeks and condition, condition, condition. If you want to get it done sooner - make it six weeks instead of 8 - 10. But two weeks is too soon /images/graemlins/frown.gif Then your hair will be ready to take the relaxer.

Or even your braid outs, I've been following your progress and you don't want to back track and mess your hair up again. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

IMO, it's worth the wait. Considering the chance of overprocessing. I'm in the same boat of underprocessed hell /images/graemlins/mad.gif. But, I won't do anything to jeopardize the condition of my hair. I plan to get relaxed again by a professional April 7th, this will make it 8weeks btw my last touch-up. Lord knows I'm gone have a fight on my hands, but I will manage. My hair is nappy as @#!* and I want to relax sooooo bad, so I fell your pain, but I try not to do things I know I will regret later. Just sit on your hands for a while, and wait it out. Our hair texture sounds the same and I would hate to see you suffer a set-back for being impatient. The ladies in the post are suffering with you(me included). So I hope this brings some comfort /images/graemlins/look.gif.

thanks nita4 and curlycrly!
nita.. i see what you are saying... underprocessing is actually not the biggest problem I could have. I've battled much worse. I've decided to push for at least 6 weeks. I actually scheduled an appointment with a stylist to do a corrective relaxer (which i was going to cancel, and still might b/c i'm wary of ALL stylists /images/graemlins/smile.gif) I guess its just a matter of keeping my hand out my hair.

Curlycrly, when my hair is wet it doesn't dry in a curly style. i have to do a braid out to get that look. thanks 4 the suggestion, i might use that hairstyle to go out on my dates.

honeycomb.. lets keep track with one another! it sucks doesn't it? thanks 4 your words of encouragement

I totally understand the stylist thing...but instead of cancelling, just make sure that they are aware of what you want, don't want and what you have already been through. When I do my own hair, I have a tendency to underprocess it. When I go to my stylist, she does it just right.

Beana, I am in the same boat of underprocessed hair. I have managed to care for the 2 textures very well. Even though my hair is underprocessed, until It starts to break, I am not relaxing. My next relaxer is scheduled for the end of March which will make 3 months for me. My hair has been quite managable. It's just that about 6in of it is wavy VS straight. If you are having problems with combing and styling try this routine that I recommended to someone else. It works great. The key to the whole routine is the pre-shampoo hotoil treatment. Let me know how it goes.... Beana, don't relax just yet.

NYCity, a great way to keep new growth moisturizied is by first doing a pre-shampoo hotoil treatment with Olive oil, castor oil, and coconut oil (don't skimp on the castor oil). Do this with a plastic cap for at least 15-20min. Shampoo with Creme of Nature Detangling (yellow/green bottle), condition with what Allandra recommended. Once done with the shampoo, use a good detangling leave-in for the combout, apply S-Curl curl activator and fix hair into a ponytail. This routine should work wonders at softening up the newgrowth . I stretched my last relaxer 3 mos using hot oil treatments and S-Curl. Good luck.

thanks!
armyqt: one thing i have noticed is that plain ole olive oil pretreats significantly help my hair. I never noticed the benefits until recently and i'm completely in love with them. I'll be waiting it out for at least 6 weeks.

I have some underprocessed hair as well and it is hard and corse when wet compared to the softer smoother properly relaxed hair. I am going to get a relaxer soon and I am going to get her to pull it through. I am then going to slowly increase the amount of hair I get trimmed so that I can rid myself of this underprocessed stuff on my head. Just be sure to condition. An aphogee treatment was a good idea and then make your fist shampoo after the relaxer be followed with a relativly strong protien treatment and then a moisturizing conditoner as usual. I have learned the hard way that waiting isn't always the best choice because it all depends on the textue and quality of you hair. Try to wait 6 weeks if you can though. Good Luck /images/graemlins/wink.gif
