TRANSITION OVER! 11-22-14
I really need to color my grays, bad. I do remember reading or hearing that a chemical service won't take well during your period. I use a semi color, so I was wondering if it were true. I know it was said about relaxers, but is hair coloring also included?:ohwell:

Who told you that? Because it's so not true. does this person also believe in fairies and goblins too?

Im sorry but that is the most retarded thing ive ever heard. Who ever told you that needs to be beat by the switch of common sense. The foolery.

I do believe tah cuse ya PORES wide open,
My husband kno when its my time, cuse he says my face had tha glo lol.

I've heard this from a lot of people. I do believe the relaxer one because my relaxers during my period was more under processed than usual.:look:

It's true. It's also true that if you say beetlejuice 3 times, he'll come and dance with you.

But seriously OP, that sounds like a complete myth.

How could that logically be true? How? Your hair is dead protein how could it possibly be affected by your period?

If I had to give an opinion, one that is not necessarily based on research or science,

I would say when your cycle is happening, your body is cleansing itself in preparation for placing new lining on your uterus. From a wholistic standpoint, the wisdom of our bodies superscedes or is much more profound and goes beyond our own wisdom.

My point is that if your body is taking those few days out of the month to cleanse and rid the body of toxins and impurities, it may be better for us to respect this process and the timing of it, in our bodies and not add chemicals from dyes or relaxers during this time so our bodies can cleanse freely and as thoroughly as possible. As was stated by someone else, I think our bodies are more open at these times and more sensitive as well.

I think it may affect your body more than normal as the above poster said but to answer the op's question I still see no reason why it would not "take".

I don't really have an explanation as eloquent as Chicoro's but I kind of believe it's not a good time for a chemical process...probably partly an old wives' tale, but most old wives' tales have some truth to them. For example, I don't believe relaxers are dangerous, yet I still didn't relax my hair for the whole 9 months I was pregnant.

Maybe with the whole dye thing hormonal change could have effect on your hair? I'm not sure. Doesn't seem technically logical, but the body does it's own thing.

I'm not joking. I just heard this from so many people, I just had to ask. :nono: I'm a bit embarrassed now for asking, but the question served its purpose.:ohwell::blush:

Let's not insult the the person(s) who gave the advice--it could be family or friends of the person who started the thread. It makes it difficult for someone to ask for advice.

I am just going to say that I have not heard that before.

Dont be embarrassed. We all hear a bunch of cockamamey hair advice from friends and famil. And even if we dont believe it at the time in the back of our mind theres always that "what if " "well maybe" feeling. When that feeling kicks in we turn to LHCF

MMM i was counting and i have seen that when i do my new growth during my period the color is more difficult to lift to blonde...it gets more golden. Why? I really don't know..maybe something with body temperature?

I've never had that problem, but I can see how there maybe some truth to it. Especially when you do chemical services on yourself. My hormones are all over the place during my period, so I don't have a whole lot of patience. I get easily frustrated and I know I'm sensitive both physically & emotionally.

It may just depend on how you react physically, emotionally, and mentally when you're on your period.

Hmm, I think it's unlikely since hair is not living and unless scientific thinking on this is completely wrong, hair that is already grown out can't react to bodily conditions.

However, it might be possible that the scalp is more sensitive at that time, making it a bad time for a chemical process. Maybe a sensitive scalp or increased sensitivity to smell might make you wash the chemical out sooner. Maybe the scalp goes through hormonal changes in sebum production or content which would get on the hair and change the effects of a process. Maybe during your period you are more likely to be uncomfortable and impatient which would affect your application.

I just made the above up, but the point is that I think most likely not, but anything is possible...
