My stylist knows what's best for my hair so I learn from his example. Every now and then when I have time to do my own hair, I see what he means. For example: sometimes a protein conditioner has to be used, and sometimes my hair needs to be clarified with a regular shampoo to eliminate build up.

I think it is good to have a regimen as a general guide, but I pay attention to changes in my hair and address them as needed. Having a regimen just makes haircare, in general, easier.

I would say when you're first starting out or have damage that you are trying to repair, then stay on a regimen, I personally was very strict with my hair the first 2 years and it paid off VERY well. Now that my hair is healthy I am able to be much more lenient in my hair care and don't need to stress as much if I miss a wash day or dont deep condition.

Yeh I agree with most ladies here, I vote for a bit of both. A level of consistency will give you better results overall. But you'd be silly to continue with, lets say, a weekly protein treatment once you start experiencing dry brittle hair that's breaking. I'd obviously try to limit the protein and up the moisture to see if things improve. It's great to be consistent, but its also imperative that you listen to your hair.

Some of you ladies have been in the game for a few years now. So my question... is it really better to stick to a regimen or not?? What are your thoughts??

Once you find a regimen that works I think you should stick to it. Some people's hair don't need a regimen and they can constantly switch products and do anything they want. I think these people are lucky.
