Hello ladies, I am interested in adding condition washing to my regimen, but was wanting to know from you ladies is it really worth it? I’ve noticed on many boards that you ladies are using this is your regimen and was needing to know if this process has really helped your hair with its growth. What are the benefits for doing this and why is it necessary or is it. How did condition washing even come about? Have this been a problem for some who are really not a daily hair washer.

Ladies please respond because I’ve seen a lot of ladies hair and admired how it looked so healthy and full and would like to staple this in my regimen.

My personal reasons for conditioner washing was for growth and moisture. I've restarted this consistently for almost two weeks, i've noticed that my hair has more moisture and has grown out fast, because of the frequent stimulation on the scalp and moisture from the water and my Beloved vo5 conditioners. considering the benefits on my hair, it is worth it.

Okay so it's my understanding that you replace the conditioner as if you were using the shampoo. Do you rinse out like the shampoo and also do you put a leave-in conditioner after the process. Is it best to wash everyday or space out your washes because I use WGO and I would hate to continuously purchase WGO just to put it in one day and wash it out the next? I want to thank you Den for responding to me and I've seen your journal your hair is beautiful.

Yes that's right...you replace shampoo with a light conditioner. After wetting my hair I apply enough conditioner to coat and leave it on for 5 minutes, I rinse most of it out with warm water. Yes you still add leave-ins afterwards just like after you deep condition. The choice is yours when deciding how frequent to do them. I tend to stay away from heavy oils, to prevent build-up, but its no problem you can always use a shampoo to clarify, baking soda, ACV rinse.

I've just started experimenting with co-washes. I guess they have both pros and cons. it's too early to attribute any growth, but i will say that my roots are more curly as opposed to being napped/frizzed while i'm washing. But as a con, i notice this film on my scalp when my hair is wet, i have to scrub with my fingers. and also i notice that my scalp gets some SERIOUS dandruff like only after 3-4 days. so if u are going to do it, i'd suggest you plan to wash at least every 3 days or maybe every other day..... i guess i'll continue rotating between co-washes and regular washes so i can remove the buildup on my scalp. well good luck!

Thank you ladies for responding I am appreciative of the advice given. What do you consider a light conditioner to use? I appreciate the ones in advice for responding. I've noticed alot of girls doing this and was wondering was there really a benefit to do it.

my favourite light conditioners are Alberto vo5 tangerine tickle, Alberto vo5 kiwi and lime squeeze, Alberto vo5 free me freesia and Alberto vo5 split ends.
Some people also use Pantene, suauve conditioners too....i'm sure there are others

I tried shampooing every 2 days the end of last summer thru fall, and I had an accelerated growth rate. I went from being fine with relaxing every 8 weeks, to needing a touch-up at 5 weeks. I only stopped shampooing so often because my scalp had this white buildup...which was probably from the shampoo, but my hair was very healthy and shiny.

Since starting my daily CO washes 1 month ago, my hair grew a lot faster and thicker. I will probably continue them from now on...my hair is thriving. IMO, yes, CO washing is worth it. Try it to see if you like the results. Some ladies don't find them useful at all.

Okay you are the second person who has experienced white residue on their scalp from this, but it seem you ladies are adiment about the results and I will give it a try. Do you ladies feel that washing your hair constantly instead of maybe once or twice a month display your hair as puffy looking (perm looks as if it wearing off) in a way?

I tried the CW once & it left residue in my hair after rinsing for about 5 minutes. Has anyone else gone through this? I also wanted to know if this helps with growth or just keeping the hair soft? Does it really do much? With all the washing, couldn't simply massaging the scalp also help with growth? JA

I'm actually going to start co-washing again.

For me, co-washing had great benefits.

It kept my hair moisturized, less breakage, clean feeling, and it actually helped control and I believe eliminate my dry scalp.

I would co-wash every other day or every 2 days if it got too busy with various conditoners. I ended up sticking with Pantene Full & Thick. I would put on the conditoner like shampoo and actually "wash" my hair gently with the conditoner. Then I would rinse it out, put some more on like regular conditioner and plastic cap it or leave it free. I would rinse out after about 30 min or so and continue on with my regimen. Then at the end of the week I would clarify.

My hair which is naturally very dry has been very moisturized since starting the daily washings. I also only shampoo once a week.

Conditioners I use are Daily Defense Tender Apple (or another from that same line) or V05 Peaches and Cream. I do not have an issue w/residue on my scalp at all. By weeks end, my hair is in need of a poo but my scalp is fine. I have minimal shedding and virtually no breakage.

My new growth is very soft and manageable and seems to be growing quite a bit better. IMHO, it's very worth it! I wish I had of stuck with the program last year, I'd be at my goal length by now!

Good luck in whatever you decide!

Tonight I will start with the process, you ladies have recommended some great products that I will add to my loooooong collections. I used to use Pantene a long time ago, but for some reason it would really dry my hair out to the point where I really needed some oil. Is the Pantene thick and full the line for ethnic hair? Alot of women have said they use the VO5 line I will try that one also. Thank you all for the advice and i really appreciate the feedback. I'm just nervous of the build up that may happen, I'm guessing that's why you guy have suggested to use clarifying shampoo.

No, it's just another line of theirs I think, or a part of their regular line-up. I know that when I first came on this board Suave Milk & Honey and Suave Tropical Coconut were all the rage up here. It wasn't for me but a lot of women had good experiences with it and it's cheap too.

CO washing is HIGHLY reccomended.

My hair loves it ans stays nicely moistured. I do mine every 1 to 3 days when I am not in braids, although lately I have been using Cream of Nature Detangling Shampoo and that's like the only shampoo that I can use often that does not dry me out.

I would suggest trying cheapo conditioners....Suave is the best that I have used and they have a bunch of different "flavors". I find the "black" ones too strong for me. You can also try something with Tea Tree in it to keep on longer as a deep conditioner..its so tingly and nice! I like Fantasia Tee Tree Conditioner.

I have been doing conditioner washes for almost 2 months and I would recommend this process also. My hair is so much softer, moisturized and I don't experience shedding while combing my hair. I have also noticed that my scalp does not look dry like it did when I used to shampoo my hair. Actually, my scalp looks so much healthier now as well.

I use Suave conditioners;worked better than V05 for me personally.

Ladies here is my update experience last night. I tried the co washing and it left little white specs in my hair I know I rinse it out well w/hot water. It did make it look thicker some along w/me adding a leave in afterwards. I use Aphogee for my co wash since that's what I had besides the Mane N Tail conditioner & shampoo I normally use. This evening I will investiage in purchasing the Suave or V05 line to see it that would work better.

I went to Walmart last night about bought the Suave Milk & Honey Conditioner for $0.94 WOW cheap for me and Suave Clarifying Shampoo also $0.94 yippie. I tried the conditioner last night and my hair is so silky smooth, man buying expensive doesn't always have to be the in thing, going el cheepo is the pay to go!!!! I will incorporate the co washes every other day or at least twice a week Monday & Wednedays. Thanks for your advice on this matter ladies.

I would def say that CO washes are worth trying. :)

I also had a major problem with buildup on my hair (white scalp, itching, etc). But I found out that I needed to use a light conditioner (like VO5, Suave, etc). And I wasn't rinsing out the conditioner throughly.

I don't CO wash everyday, but I do it once or twice a week. :) My hair is soooo soft and the re-growth is manageable and supple. I currently use are V05 Nourishing Oasis (Honey Almond). :yay:
