Is it nessessary to use heat after a relaxer?

I'm planning on having a relaxer in September sometime, and would like to airdry for once after relaxing, rather then blowdrying.

Does the heat after a relaxer re-align the hair in some way? can i airdry in a pony as usual?

reason being is, i want to semi dye my hair in October and will definately want to use heat afterwards, so i figured if i skip a heat session in sep, then the one in oct can replace it, and my december relaxer will be my final blowout of the yr to mark the end of Hide Hair Till Xmas challange!

I don't see what heat has to do with the actual relaxing process. I don't think you will find mention of it as a necessitiy in any of the instructions, at least for your basic lye and no-lye systems.

ITA with So1913. Airdrying after a relaxer shouldn't be a problem at all girl! I do it all the time for fullness and to basically give my hair a rest after such a stressful hair event. Then, usually the next day or so, I flatiron for a trim. The only thing heat would do is make your hair silkier and lengthen your hair out a bit more than airdrying alone would-- but its not mandatory. Good luck!

so1913, I was wondering the same thing about the transition.

Candy_C, I don't think that it's necessary at all to use heat after relaxing. I don't use direct heat often anymore. After washing, I'd just rollerset and let it either airdry or sit under a bonnet dryer. Blow-drying isn't necessary.

I haven't used heat in over 2 years and I relax every 12 weeks or so. No problems whatsoever, just stong hair. I agree with Sisterslick that airdrying after a relaxer is a good way to lessen the "shock" to scalp and hair after the traumatizing relaxer encounter . . .

I think you can absolutely airdry after a relaxer. It's probably better for the hair anyway!

Since my hair is chin length, I have a hard time air dryingerplexed I will be so glad when I get to shoulder length or even to the bottom of my neck so my styles can be more versitile (SP??)

so1913: I will hopefully transition after my last relaxer...theres just a few goals i want to meet whilst relaxed first

SistaSlick: yeh i can see what you mean, my scalp does feel a bit battered after the process! - i plan to use either the adore rinse in jet black (i think thats what its called) or the crimson red colour. I may go for the black, i'm aiming for the Cleopatra look!

I airdried after my last relaxer...i nfact cuz the hairdressers was shutting i came home with fairly damp hair and just combed thru some ego boost and left it at that..my hair loved and i never use heat after a relaxer and certainly not from an iron
