Is It Inappropriate??

Is it inappropriate for a grown woman, say thirty-something, to wear her hair in more than one ponytail?

I was thinking of a style with two ponies or buns stacked one above the other at the back of my head, kind of close together. I have always been able to get better control over my hair if I section it. I am wondering if it will look too crazy, stupid, ridiculous, silly, horrible, age-inappropriate, etc.

All of you style divas out there tell me what you think.

I don't think it's inappropriate. I've seen ladies do this a lot, myself included. I've worn it in two ponytails and entwined them together to make a bun also.

I think two buns are OK.

Two ponies... that looks a bit immature for a thirtysomething ...just giving my honest opnion.

I'm glad you asked this question. I've been recently practicing with this style. (I am 30-something). I can't quite get it. If anyone has pictures and/or instructions I would be grateful if you post. Thanks.

What a coincidence this question was brought up. Just a couple of days ago I wore my hair in pigtails. I washed it, parted it down the middle, made the pigtails and put rollers in on both sides. I got alot of compliments from work, mostly comparisons to Shirley Temple. I know it made me look younger (I'm 28) but I'm fine with that. Okay... I got a few strange stares on the train but that's alright. I like to wear my hair like that. I've got alot of hair so I can pull it off pretty well.

Hey that sounds like a good idea. It sounds like it will look more elegant that way.

Does it look good on you? better yet,..Do you like it?

If so then 30yrs or 300yrs...go ahead:).

Thanks. Sometimes I do things with my hair that I like only to be told later that it doesn't look good. So I figured I'd get some opinions first before I got out of my house.

I bet that was cute. I have shoulder length hair and I KNOW that I cannot pull off a part in the middle.

I just don't want to hear "Now you know that you are too old to wear your hair like that."

What? You don't look any older than about 25. Well, damn... you REALLY look good. Go mami!!

I'm thirtysomething, and I've worn my hair in twin buns & ponys, top and bottom buns & ponys. When fully relaxed, I only wore a bun or a single pony, but as I've gained more natural hair, I've also redefined what is a "kid's style." I used to think more than one bun/pony was a little juvenile, but I now realize that my transitioning/natural hair looks great in more than one pony/bun...so...

in short, I don't think it's inappropriate. This truly is one of those cases where you have to "do you."

Girl, my great-grandmother wore her waist-length hair in Pocohantas braids that she coiled up into buns like Princess Leia for 35 years! Was still wearing it that way when she passed on at 87! Do yo' thang!:p

Yep, the transitioning and having more natural hair is what I am going through right now. It is getting too difficult to get all of my hair in one bun/pony w/o causing a lot of breakage. I have got to do something different that is easy and will look good. *Sigh* ...if only I could do bantu knots... :ohwell:

If you think it's cute, pretty, whatever then wear it. Screw what others think/say. :look:

I hear ya'. I don't usually care what others think. However, the one criticism that I have always feared since I got into my 30's is that I am trying hard to look young and look ridiculous doing it. I guess it's because I have heard a lot of my guy friends talk something awful about women they view as being that way. And when your family tells you that something is too young for you... uuggghhhh, that stings! I do what I can to not give them any ammo.

I just wore a triple pony style a few weeks ago. It might make me look younger than I am but I think that's a good thing when I'm not at work.

   oh Nahhhh girl!!! I am just bad at picturing stuff in my head. Now it doesn't sound too bad but I just wanted to see where you were going with it. I didn't want to just say "go 'head girl" without knowing exactly what you were talking about. I wouldn't send one of my sistas out into the world to get slaughtered by unwarranted looks and gaping mouths b/c I said it was cute and it really wasn't. Now if I didn't love you . . .
