Is "Indigo" alone sufficient?

Question, Ladies - :scratchch

I think I remember JustKiya mentioning that Sareca was only Indigo-ing now instead of the original method...Henna...then Indigo. However, when I want things sometimes I interpret what I read into what I want instead of what is actually being said.

So, can we just apply the Indigo to our hair and skip the Henna step? Is Indigo alone sufficient for strengthening? If so, I'll go that route because I want the strengthening properties I've received with Henna, but I could do without the brown then black process.

Thank you ladies for your responses

I was told if you dye your hair with just the Indigo your hair will be an ugly deep pea green; the red in henna is necessary to get the blue/black color. So I suggest henna first, then indigo :)

plain old indigo will make your hair BLUE. :nono::nono:

You need to henna first, then right after apply the indigo. the indigo needs a something to adhere to.

Yeah, you need Henna first to give the Indigo something to adhere to and to get the proper black color you're looking for. Plus the conditioning properties of Henna will add strength and shine. I know it's a lot of work, but if you're gonna do it, I say do it RIGHT! good luck!:yep:

:look:

Nuh-uh!! Yeah, you've gotta have the henna in order for the indigo to stick. What I might have said is that you can do a two step process (henna, rinse, indigo) rather than mixing it together (mix henna, let color release, mix indigo, mix together, apply, rinse) but as far as I know, in order to get the pretty deep color (and to get it to STICK), you've gotta have henna.

If you do indigo by itself, your hair will come out purplish/blue. Think about those little old ladies you see with blue hair...not a good look. :nono:

You have to use the henna and indigo together in order to turn the color jet black.

What if you want it to be a little bit purplish blue, but not like...a strong purple blue?...Like an eggplant but a bit more black. What color henna would you mix with the indigo?

Not to hijack this thread....but I wonder what would happen to if you indigo'd first then henna'd your hair. I wonder what color your hair would be. hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm...............

I just went through this yesterday. JLove74 and WomanlyCharm are correct, just indigo will turn your hair straight up blue. You either have to mix them together (brown) or do henna then indigo [a 2 step process] (black).

I did the 2 step yesterday and I am VERY pleased with my black.

yay so did it get ulta blue-black on the first try?? Im doing this soon, I cant wait. I think I read somewhere that it sometimes takes a few applications to get ultra black, so just wondering... :)

Yes, I got a nice blue/black the first time. Here's what I did:

Washed hair with Shikakai bar to get rid of anything that could prevent the color from holding. Towel dried hair, then...

Hennaed hair with
-300 gm Dulhan henna
-2tb of red palm oil (I've got tons of it now)
-2tb no cone conditioner
-enough water to make a good paste

Left henna on for about 1 hr. then did my Indigo

-200 gm Indigo (from Indian Herb Exporters)
-1 heaping teaspoon salt (hennaforhair.com says this helps adhere the indigo)
-enough water to make a paste

Left Indigo on for about 45 min., rinsed then conditioned with a little MT. Rinsed again and sealed with Red Palm Cream (Thank you Sareca!)

SHINY BLACK HAIR!!! :lick:!!!
