Is coloring two weeks following a relaxer all that bad?

I just did this a few days ago and my hair seems fine...BUT I did a black dye which is said to be less damaging than the lighter ones. By the way is this true? Just some questions that have been bugging me lately:)

If you're worried about damage why don't you just get a black rinse?

I used to use a black rinse and didn't experience any damage.

ITA if you are only going darker you wont need a harsh chemical, only a rinse or powder dye like Begin which would last longer. Going lighter is the only color that requires ammonia, peroxide, or bleach that is harsh on the hair.

I've always heard that within the first two weeks is optimal... because the follicles are still "open". Dont know how true that is, though.

I would think two weeks for permanent color is ok as long as you know your hair isn't breaking or having problems.

I've been doing black rinses since I was a 15 and I loved them, but now since I wash my hair twice a week the rinses only last so long. I dont feel like doing them every two weeks anymore. And leeleepop, I did use bigen this last time by the way and I loved it.

And my original message was a mistype you guys. I MEANT to say that I did the color before the recommended two week waiting period...thats my question. Is it really that damaging to do it only a week after relaxing. Sorry about that, I was in a hurry trying to leave from work when I wrote my original message.:look:

I dont think that Bigen is too harsh to use. When I use to relax every five weeks I used it the same day I relaxed and it didnt give me a problem. I just dont like those dyes that require ammonia and peroxide to just stain the hair.I think its unecessary.

Lexi, you are going to be just fine! You are no hair novice so I don't know why you are even stressing  If you do start to see your hair heading south, you already know how to get it back on track!

Last year, I relaxed my hair barely 2 weeks after a orangey/red permanent color- now who should have been worried. :look: Talk about my hair was CRUNCH city. From now on, I'm leaving coloring to the pros.

Lexi,

I did this a couple of months ago, relaxed then applied Bigen 1 week later. I have no problems so far. Gotta love Bigen!;)

Hey sista. yeah I remember that color mishap last year...I'm glad you recovered because you had us worried something terrible!:( Anyway thanks for the responses, I'm glad Bigen is considered nearly harmless. Now I can wipe my forehead and breathe a sigh of relief!:D
