Is Coconut oil dangerous?

I've never had any problem with it at all. I use Monoi Oils which contain coconut, and I also use L'anza Protein Plus shampoo.

That's a new one on me too, and definitely not the info I've read elsewhere about coconut oil. In fact, I was under the impresson that coconut oil is one of the best oils on earth, for human use both externally and internally.

[EDIT: I just wrote to their Customer Care Center to ask for an explanation, so I'll let you guys know what they say.]

I think they are using scare tactics to sell their own products.

Maybe we should ask Polynesian and those who live in the tropics who have been using coconut oil on their hair for centuries. I say "Don't worry, be happy now!"

that I'm scared to use my shampoo because the SLS (according to the article) is more dangerous than I thought

I was kind of shocked coconut oil was mentioned in the article; the chemicals I understand, but not the coconut oil.

No way is coconut oil dangerous! I grew up in South America and everyone used it -- they still do and have been forever. Especially the people of east indian descent and as we all know some of the longest hair on earth can be found on the heads of east indian women. We also cooked with it and we are all fine.

"Disodium Laureth Sulfosucinate are made by separating Lauric acid from coconut oil and treating with sulfuric acid, or by making lauric acid synthetically." Please re-read the article.

I read that but I also read the part where it says:

Check the label on many shampoos and any one of the following may be listed: Sodium Laureth Sulfate, MEA, DEA, TEA Laurel Sulfate, Cocomide or coconut oil. All of these compounds are commonly used surfactants related to SLS and have the same potential health dangers.

They need to proofread and edit the article and remove coconut oil from that list, if they will refer to all of those on that list as having the same potential health dangers.

Hmmm, I don't believe this. Some of the best shampoos I have used contain cocomide. I haven't had any problems with coconut milk, oil, or any by product of coconuts.
