I like to cowash because I can refresh my hairstyle in the middle of the week without it drying out. Cowashing makes untangling my hair really easy, and it adds moisture and shine.
Nope I only do it in the summertime as a refresher in btw shampooing. Pre poing can be a buffer for stripping shampoos if needed. Co-washing can clog the hair follicles if its a sole method of cleansing for some some of the ladies on this forum had to stop because once a hair analysis was done their follices were clogged and their hair thinning.
I don't think it's necessary, but it's worth a try. A lot of people benefit from it. My hair and scalp despises cowashing, unless I use a product marketed as a "cleansing conditioner". If I were to do a traditional cowash, my scalp would itch and my strands will be limp, coated, and dry. Luckily, I found a shampoo with slip and conditioning properties (Shea Moisture Retention Shampoo).
But don't let my experience deter you, I'm definitely an outlier.
I think it depends. I cowash if I feel my hair is dry, but I still use shampoo to clean my hair. I can't sub cowashing for shampoo but I do cowash for moisture sometimes in between wash days.
I can't use leave ins. A cowash is a nice way to get the condish on, rinse, and still have moisturized hair. I still gotta do an actual wash once a week tho.
