Hi I am new here and I see that a lot of you co-wash every other day. why so often and what is the benifit from co-washing your hair everyother day? I heard somewhere that it's bad to wash your hair so often, is it different because you are not using shampoo

Hi!

I usually co wash every day unless my hair is flat ironed. But now that the weather is changing i've been wearing twist outs and co washing every 3 or 4 days.

In any event, co washing for me is very beneficial. I have started excersizing quite a bit, so i feel that i am getting all the junk out of my hair when i co wash (really just rinsing with water makes me feel good). Also, my hair has taken a turn for the better with my moisture level. Ummm, co washing also helps me slick my hair into a ponytail because while dry it's not happening. What else...ummm, i can't think of any more benefits right now. But yes, it is good for (my) hair and no i don't use shampoo all the time, usually once every week is good for me.

Personally my hair thrived when I cowashed frequently throughout the spring and summer...but Im not sure whether it is the water or stimulation of the scalp. But you are right, it isnt drying because you arent using shampoo which dries our hair out (even the moisturizing ones). I also have a dry, itchy scalp that likes to be clean so I hardly ever go more than 3 or 4 days without at least cowashing. It keeps my dandruff at bay.

I co wash everyday when I don't flat iron or rollerset. It makes my hair very moist, soft, bouncey, and shiney. My hair also gets very thick also. Loves it especially when I'm stretching to 12 weeks. I don't think its good to wash your hair everyday if your only using shampoo.

I co wash because I exercise a lot but I need it for the moisture too. My hair needs a lot of moisture and it's a way to get it in there and clean my hair as well.

Conditioner shampooing helps me stretch relaxers by softening new growth. I can comb through my hair with the conditioners on; shower comb straight through. I like to use ELASTA QP DPR11 topped with a cholesterol conditioner on dry hair under the heat cap for 30-60 minutes then rinsed well. Leave-in con. then an oil to seal. Tangle free and smooth.

I co wash daily and my hair loves it. Co washing keeps my hair moisturized, soft, shiny, bouncy, just full of life. My hair has never felt better. You're right about not washing daily with shampoo, it's way too harsh to use every day. It's fine to use conditioner because it's very moisturizing, no damage done. I usually wash weekly with shampoo, but that's all my hair needs.

This is so true. My dry, parched hair started to turn around once I started my cowashing. I do it all the time now. Usually every few days. There are times when I need it everyday or every other. My hair lets me know. It has done wonders for my scalp, too. I used to have dry, flaky scalp. You could eat off it now!:yep: I haven't had any flakes since '06 (I did have the itchies for a short time tho).

I just started cowashing--because im also transitioning... i went everyday and got hooked on cowashing the first week and plus i had lesser of hairs in my hand when i would run my hands thru my hair. I went this week without cowashing daily and oh my God i had so many hairs coming out in my hand it was crazy. My hair seemed it was more easy to manage and softer. Before cowashing I would apply the oil on my scalp(BT) and when i would put my hands in my hair the oil just seemed to sit on top of my hair and my hair was still feeling hard...

I co-wash every 2-3 days, after that I spray on some heat protectant, apply some glosser, and blow dry, then curl.

New to the forum. Please tell me exactly how to co-wash. Is that something I want to do with permed hair? Also, can you tell me what pre-poo means? How do I do it and how often.
