Is Buying Vitamins Online Less Expensive?

For me it is. I use vitacost.com or vitaminshoppe.com to purchase vitamins. I bought 2 bottles of Fo-Ti for the price of one I purchase at the local health food store. Vitacost.com is cheaper than vitaminshoppe.com.

I was just looking at the vitaminshoppe.com, drugstore.com and vitamins.com websites....I've never heard of vitacost.com. I will check that out now. Thanks!

With shipping, is it less expensive to order online than to purchase from the local GNC?

Hi CurlyCrly,

Jade has definately told me about some wonderful sites that ARE less expensive than GNC and that sell vitamins that are more potent. The ones that you mention are pretty good, however, vitamin shoppe did send me a bottle of old, clumped up conditioner. Hopefully that was just a one time thing.

I have been to several places like Whole Foods that will definately mark up products that I can get cheaper online and including shipping. That was one of the reason's I ordered from Vitamin Shopp. Whole Foods sell Aubrey's GPB 16 oz conditioner for 20.95 and vitamin shoppe sells it for around $14.00

I was actually in the process of ordering from Vitamin Shoppe, but my computer froze on the checkout screen. Then I read that post about the conditioner in the vendor topic and didn't order from them. I read the posts mentioning the other online sites, so I ordered from Puritan Pride. I hope that it comes next week. I want to start Bargello's vitamin regimen.

Thanks!

That's where I am going to order also CurlyCrly because I have heard great things about them. /images/graemlins/smile.gif I will make another order at the Vitamin Shoppe though because maybe that was just a one time thing that happened. I don't like bad service but I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt since it was my first time ordering. I will just place a small order.

i prefer Vitamin Shoppe for my supplements. other sites have some lower prices, but the selection there is best for the stuff that i buy. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

In case some of you haven't seen the thread. Jade (the hair and vitamin guru) recommends the Puritans pride biotin but not theri Pantothenic Acid (B5) and recommends Solgar's B5 instead b/c the PP version contains Starch.

I saw Jade's thread and ordered biotin from puritans pride. I didn't get the b5 though. You all are making me a vitamin junkie! lol.....I've gone from a product junkie to a vitamin junkie. Oh well, at least the vitamins are good for the rest of my body too. Grow, hair! Grow!!! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

nahh...I don't think so. Not for me. Vitamins help the entire body. Not just hair.

Yes it is less expensive to shop online for one the majority of these sites do not charge tax. and if we were to go to a shoppe in our areas you know we will be paying that 8.25% (here in NYC).

paying the shipping and handling is just the same as paying for gas/carfare to get to the stores.

Much of the time when i do purchase vitamins from stores in my area they are much more expensive or either the merchants do not have what im looking for. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

True so true. I have been ordering my supplements from Swanson for some time now. They, and most other online/mail order companies can guarantee freshness and they have so much more variety than local pharmacies/health stores in my area. There is nothing more upsetting than picking up a bottle of vitamins and finding dust or stains on the bottle. Fresh? Pure? I don't think so.

OMG! This is so weird. I work for the USPS and I kept seeing catalogs for Swansons, but didn't see a website, so when I got a chance I wrote down the 800# and company name because I wanted to search online for it. Thanks! You saved me the trouble of searching. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Most vitamins I order from PuritansPride.com. They have AMAZING sales. Some others like Silica and MSM usually just run to the Vitamin Shoppe for those. Their prices are good and I got a frequent shopper card so they're always sending me coupons and stuff which is cool.

Puritan's Pride: That's where I ordered most of mine from this past weekend. I hope it comes this week. Will they send catalogs in the mail or do they send notices of specials via email?

Puritians Pride! My first vitamin order was from them. Hope you ladies enjoy ordering. I have been ordering all my vits and supps for almost two years now and have had no regrets at all. Consistent quality and low pricess keep us coming back for more.

don't know about anyone else's GNC and vitmain stores, but over here they don't know /images/graemlins/censored.gif about supplements. Didn't know anything about MSM, and you can forget about Evening Primrose Oil. Yeah, I learned more from Swanson and Pruritians Pride than I ever learned from GNC

gigi, i think i'm gonna give Swanson's a try next time i have to place an order. their selection and prices are pretty good for what i take. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Curlycrly, I ordered from them last week and I rec'd my order today. They had coupons, vitamin information guides, and a catalog in the box. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

My one and only Swansons experience wasn't that great.

If you order from Swanson's stick with the brands you know. I decided to try Swansons brand biotin last month. The Swanson's biotin was about 5 times the size as the Country Life, even they are both 5 mg. When I called, the phone rep told me there were no fillers, but said she didn't know why they were so large.

The order took over two weeks because some stuff was backordered. When I finally got my order, it was only a partially filled. I was already annoyed, and after seeing the size of the biotin, I cancelled the part of my order that hadn't shipped yet, and returned the part I received.

I usually order from iherb.com or vitaglo.com. I always receive my iherb orders within 2 days and my vitaglo orders in three.

Thanks for telling us about vitacost.com I'd never heard of it before. My health food store has stopped carrying most of the supplements and hair products that I use. /images/graemlins/confused.gif I was going to start ordering exclusively from vitaminshoppe.com but vitacost is a lot cheaper.

Now if they only carried Aubrey's products... /images/graemlins/scratchchin.gif

You're quite welcome Sassy! I was in the vitamin store today. Everything I needed cost at least $15.00 or more. If I were to buy everything I'm out of, I'd spend well over $100.00 (which I don't have). That's why I started purchasing vitamins online. I'm thinking about getting into greenfoods; e.g. Barley, Spirulina. I'm already taking fresh Wheatgrass juice-Yuk! The amount I take is supposed to be equivalent to eating 2/lbs. of green veggies. I find that hard to believe. But everytime I go for my "fix", there are more & more people standing at the counter ordering Wheatgrass Juice.
Checking out for now got to rinse the Emergencee Reconstructor out of my hair! Happy growing all!!!

You're quite welcome! I'm an avowed lurker. But I'm working up the courage to contribute more to the board. Your countless advice & information has helped me more than you could imagine! Ditto for everyone else on this board!
