Is breakage inevitable?

Ok, ladies. Help me out with this one. I know I have said this before, but I have been taking (IMO) great care of my hair since I joined this forum a few weeks ago. Though I have noticed that my shedding has decreased DRASTICALLY (garlic oil is the ish) and my hair is soft and shiny, no matter how much I moisturize, DC, protective style, use little direct heat and I try to balance my protein to moisture ratio, my hair still breaks! :wallbash:

Is it safe to assume that all the past damage in my strands is just too much and no matter how much TLC I give my hair, the weak pieces are just going to break off? I used the Emergencee/Humectress combo a few weeks back and it didn't make much of a difference....:perplexed

I'm experiencing the same thing. I sure hope someone can let me know the deal!

Did you make your own garlic oil or did you buy it? If bought, where? I need to buy some ASAP...

I've seen the garlic oil at my local BSS but the one I got my mom gave me. I also crushed some garlic cloves into it to increase potency. It is pretty stinky, but it does the trick. Check online, I'm sure you can find some garlic oil on amazon.com.

I look at breakage like this - it's a side effect/result of how that strand of hair has been treated - not just in the last week/month, but since it came out of your scalp.
If you started from bald, and took PERFECT care of your hair (minimum mechanical damage, minimum chemical exposure/damage, minimal heat exposure/damage, perfect protein/moisture balance, etc.) then, MAYBE - MAYBE you could have utterly NO breakage.

However, most of us - well, the hair we are working with now has been on our head long before we started treating our hair like antique silk. And because of the previous - even minor - damage that we've done to our hair previously - it's going to break. Add to that the fact that the ends are the oldest and the weakest..... *sigh*

I would think though, that the longer you take fabulous care of your hair, the less breakage you will see - maybe eventually getting down to virtually none....
