Irritated beyond belief...

Just got back from getting a touch-up. The touch-up went fine it's just what happened after it that made me mad. I went back to Salon Cecelia because I couldn't find anybody else who uses Mizani before I was due. The same assistant from before relaxed me (I think her name's Janice, Cherise, something like that) but I opted, in the sake of hair health, to get roller set instead of a wrap which would end up with Cecelia hot curling me. The roller set was blah. My hair wasn't crispy from the setting lotion like BRH's was (same assistant Rhonda, rolled us) but the rollers weren't in tight enough or angled right so my roots were funky looking.

Unfortunately, I ended up having to have Cecelia recurl it with the iron anyway. What pissed me off more was the cost: the touch-up was $50 and the failed attempt at a roller set was charged seperately at $35!

Final cost was $88.40 including tax. I was appalled. I wasn't happy but I kept quiet because I didn't want to look stupid. I seriously do not want to go back there for styling (which they're lacking on I see, if it doesn't consist of using heat) but I love the Mizani. I'm almost tempted to tell them just to wrap me after relaxing and leave me be (unless they charge for wraps too). I'm starting to hate salons and they're a la carte charges. I rather look like this at home

than pay $80 and like the same.

wow that is an outrageous amount, especially if you have to do this very often!!!

The cost of staying natural priceless!

Anyway I would not pay for the roller set. I truly would say to that stylist: You know, I can't pay you for such a job right?
smile.gif

Oh HELL NAW!!! Ain't no way in the world you should have paid for their screw up. Bump that. I wouldn't have given them and extra dime. I definitely would have been like, "I know good and well you ain't charging me extra for the correction are you?" I would have gave her that $50 and called it a day. MOST stlyist I know will tell you if you are not satisfied, they will fix it for you at no charge. I know you are

You know, I don't think that it has anything to do with relaxed or natural---but going to Salons. I admit also that I get intimidated. My style is more to just not return, rather than be confrontational. My stylist before this one: she was a piece of work. I asked her to be reall careful and gentle when combing out my wet hair. She actually smirked at me. Tried to make me feel stupid for even suggesting it. She was really rough. And did I say anything? NO. I just didn't go back. So I know how you felt, you just get home kinda angry and dissapointed.

I had a beautician who tried to charge separately per style and left her. The hair style should be included in the cost of the relaxer. I myself get a wrap after after retouch and no heat is required other than the hair dryer.

Jazzy this is terrible. I hated the rollarset job they gave me. Crunchy hard curls that they then brushed out and it HURT. AND the end result was poofy. How pathetic.

Was it the tall skinny one that rollarset you? Also, did you have to pay extra for the deep condition? I know they charge extra for that too
mad.gif

I would've suggested my hairdresser where the deep conditioning and styling is all included but its approx $70 at that salon and they don't use Mizani. There must be somewhere else that uses this relaxer for less $$$ unless you switch to another relaxer or buy Mizani and bring it with you to a different salon that doesn't want to nickle and dime you.

Definitely forget Cecilia. Their prices are ridiculous for the end result.

Yup, BRH, it was the same girl Rhonda. The deep condition is free when you get a touch-up (I suspect they use regular instant conditioner and just leave it on. She used M.O.P., Modern Organic Products, conditioner I think.) I've looked locally for somebody who used Mizani and all I've heard was "No it's too expensive to buy plus we like Bantu and Hawaiian Silky, *enter relaxer that's too harsh or leaves me underprocessed here)." or "We used or not anymore." I don't mind paying $70 even if I brought my own Mizani since the set and conditioner is included (and better yet if they style correctly). I may have to give yours a call. Where are they located? Do they base? (a big thing for me as I burn easily and vaseline doesn't cut it) I admit, the corrective style was bouncy (like the commercials, I can shake it and it would bounce back) and shiny but it doesn't justify the cost.

DANG !!!
ooo.gif
I pay $17 for a wash, rollerset, and blowout/style. One dollar extra for a deep conditioner. Touch-ups with Motions are $35 including the rollerset, etc. afterwards. And Herman is the bomb....

Since the roller set didn't come out right (due to the rollers not being tight and being angled wrong), I don't think they should have charged you extra to recurl it. It's their fault. I wouldn't go back to that salon either.

Jazzy,

Reading above, Lunalight says her place is good and is alot cheaper than where I go. But in answer to your questions, I'd recommend you ask for Marcia (my friend) to do you. She's excellent. She bases very well first and then I noticed she put on some kind of (essential?) oils on the hair and then begun relaxing. She uses the unteeth part of the comb. She's gentle and very professional and does you from start to finish, bases, relaxes, washes, deep conditions, dries - the works.

Only thing is that she uses Affirm on me(she has a couple of other relaxers there too). I don't know if she'd let you bring Mizani. I'd def. suggest you call her and ask: 212 724 4492. For drying, she doesn't rollarset. She blowdries the hair on a very cool setting and ends with curling irons. Under normal circumstances I'd frown on this drying method but as I've said before, my hair always comes out great with her. Well conditioned and super shiny and good to go. No burning or anything so I don't mind this drying method. She does it very well. (Ask Tracy who was with me once and watched).

Good luck which ever salon you end up going with. Anything must be better than Ceclia now.

BrownRelaxedHair,

Is there any particular reason why she doesn't rollerset? I'm just curious.

Allandra.

I asked her that once and she said that she does rollarset but only when she has time. I've never seen her do it or seen anyone there with rollars. Marcia works like a horse, starts around 9 and leaves sometimes after midnight. Yep. That's when she's worth a high paying client who needs to be done and can't come another time. She does the craziest hours. I assume she just can't be bothered personally
laugh.gif
Either that or she just favours the way she does it right now.

Either way. She's the ONLY one I trust to do it this way on me since the results are always good.

Luna, where is Herman located? Does he only use Motions or do you bring in your own relaxers? Does he base? (I'm lazy and even if I based myself, I always miss sections and end up burning LOL) Considering the back section of my hair is too short to roll and needs to be slicked down and then touched up with a curling iron, that part I don't mind if he'll do that. It's just doing the whole head that was supposed to be done correctly.

I sure wish you had not paid for that rollerset-heck, I still can't believe they charged that separately!!!! Sheesh, I've never heard of such a thing. Are you sure this is the kind of place you want to continue to go to? And isn't this the same place where an assistant based someone's hair with the relaxer?

Basing the scalp with the relaxer? Surely you are mistaken. The person's scalp would have 2nd and 3rd degree burns by the time the relaxer was properly applied to the hair.

I'm really sorry to hear about your experience, Jazzy. Try to follow up on the people mentioned here..My stylist is also very good, but she's up in Harlem and I don't know if that's too far for you...She doesn't mind if you bring your own stuff either...

Please DON'T go back to that salon...Try the salons that BRH and Lunalight recommended if anything...

Dang!! I am so sorry to hear that jazzy!! I don't have a place to suggest to you because, i am still searching myself..but DO NOT go back there!!! Some stylists are so greedy!!!

Bett1e, that did happen to somebody on this board. It happened at Mr. John's though. I'm definitely NOT going back to them. It's not the price because my hair is like my hobby you know? I'll just shell out $40 to buy the Mizani from a site somebody posted here and take it with me. Carmenrose, where in Harlem is she located? By what train? (I'm near the 2 and 5 trains). I'll start calling around soon.

I would of not paid for the rollerset...and I would not go back. In the mean time see if you can find another stylist. Also, you could just got for the relaxer. I never pay to have my hair styled. When I get a cut or trim that's all I pay for.

Oh jazzy im so sorry this happened to you. I dont think i could shut up though esp. to pay extra
shocked.gif
. I hope u do find somewhere good. finding a great salon is such a pain - why?? wish it werent so.. and to think i was gona go there for my next touch up. she indeed is greedy, esp. since she raised the price of that product when she heard......

oh well down with Marvin and Salon Cecelia. Ill probably go back to Yolette.

Oh pumpkin, if you read this can u post or pm me her #from the card pls.

at least she charges $60 incl deep cond and style and bases very well - might i add! i absolutely did not burn and my hair looked great for days.
smile.gif
the only thing is she uses design essentials but im sure she'll use my usual affirm if i ask.

See that's how these stylists get away with stuff cause we pay them REGARDLESS. My stylists knows I like roller sets so last time she did'nt even ask me what I wanted she just started blow drying and tellin me what SHE was gonna do.

Well, last week, I washed and did twists (about 8) then I spiraled the twists on solar rollers, with Surl spray and Scurl Gel.

When I took them down it looked like cork screw curls i untwisted and just hand seperated them, it looked so good. My daughter wanted me to go to the hairdresser with her to pick a color for her hilites and our stylists had the nerve to say oh? Where you go to get your curls, did you go to another salon? I'm like NO I did it.

She seemed so impressed that I could do that, which is good, I want her to know that I CAN do my hair at home and don't need her. Just for a retouch.

And God knows, I wish I could do this myself. I really don't like stylist anymore. Prices are riduclous., that set took me less than what, 15 minutes. The results were phenominal and FREE....

I got so many compliments. But I was mostly peeved that people asked if I got it done at the salon, I have never went to the salon and got those results

Hey Mindy - What are solar rollers and where can I get them. Your idea sounds great so I want to take a stab at it. Also, can you give me directions from beginning to end? Thanks ;-)

Hi Carmel.

They come in a pack of like 8 they are soft, it's the kind you fold up. Probably a perm rod would work better.

Well, start to finish I basically did a wash and condition, Sprayed with Scurl and combed out (detangled) I parted down the middle and then in sections I think I had for our five twists on each side before twisting I put SCurl Gel on then winded the hair around the roller.

I let it air dry, but try it with the hooded dryer, cause my hair was not dry in the back in the morning and it was a lil frizzy in the back.

But I was surprised at how it came out. Let me know what you think if you try it...

I'm doing Adriennes Ponytail thing this week, and I'll do the set again maybe next week.

Oh, BTW I did'nt comb it at all just put the satin cap on at night, the second night I retwisted adn set a couple that was looking ragged.

I guess if they realized the mistake right away, they could have rinsed it out...but oh my God, are people for real?! Who are these people working in Salons up there?! Dang...I hope they don't creep down to Atlanta any time soon.

I gave the card to free2bme but I think I wrote the # down in my planner. I left it home so tonight I will PM the #.

Mindy ~
did you wind your hair lengthwise (like a shirley temple curl) or regular (like a roller when you roller set)? Also, it appears that you never actually twist it so its not really a twist set... rite (i had to stop for a minute because im scratching my scalp in confusion)...hahaha. sorry to keep at you like this, but i want to get this right so i don't look like i did friday when my hair was too dry but I HAD to go to work ;-)... thanks a bunch

Yes, I did twists, then rolled the twists. Yes lenghtwise.
Start at the top of the roller and wind the twist around downward (spiral) like a corkscrew. The solar rollers aren't that long so depending on your length, you might want to use longer perm rods, but if it's shoulder lenght the Solars will work fine.
