Intuitive HairCare- Do You Ever Use Your Intuition

... to care for your hair. Do you listen to your dreams about which products to use or not to use? Do you ever use creative visualization or other techniques to get your "Haircare" questions answered?

Sorry, I don't have "Hair E.S.P." but I wish I did.

My intuitions are busy trying to protect me from evil do-ers.

No dreams here but sometimes I come up with stuff on my own and then later find out that it's a technique...like co washing!

before joining this site, all i used was my own intuition. i've been right on target, too.

1. i cut back on using heat a few years ago when i discovered 2 strand twists.
2. i started conditioner washes a few years ago also, b/c i felt that my hair wasn't necessarily dirty, but needed to be conditioned so that i could comb it. [i didn't know it had a name]
3. my first "protective" or "non-contact style" was my famous puffy ponytail (with the part in the middle) that i wore from the time i could do my own hair (about 6 years old) until i was almost 14. all i would do is brush the top back into a ponytail...rarely did i or could i comb the ends!
4. i'm a bun wearer, b/c i'm so very uncreative and they look very professional. i also discovered that wearing buns gives my hair just the right amount of curl. i was able to practically stop using a curling iron.
5. i alternate between shea butter and kemi oyl
6. i wrap consistently.
7. i figured out that "black" products were not necessarily the best ones for my hair and decided to try other products
8. i recognized that i was a product junkie [didn't know that had a name, either] when i began going into EVERY hair store i saw. luckily, my cravings are satisfied by just browsing...for extended periods of time.

no dreams...just learning to trust my own instincts!

Great thread!

My intuition led me to the hair boards in the first place. I didn't even know they existed. I needed hair assistance badly and put the call out. So yes, I use my intuition for answers as well as to guide me to the right people, places or things. I also take my dreams seriously so if I do have a dream about my hair, I really pay attention to the message given. Sometimes, it may be a thumbs up

. Other times, I may dream of certain vitamins or foods I need for my hair and health.

And I always use creative visualization for my hair and body. I make sure I "see" my hair (and body) only the way I want it to be at all times, a very simple but powerful exercise.

Sounds like you both are very intuitive Hairlove and Dontspeakdefeat!

Ditto...also the one where you braid the hair in sections to wash it. My nieces hair was SOOOO l o n g and THICK I would wash it, comb it out with conditioner and loosely braid it in sections, and rinse the conditioner while it was still in the braids. It was the only way to not do the comb out again.

I don't know if its intuition or common sense. There are things like frequent washings my mother (shes 78 now) was against. She would tell me I was going to lose all my hair washing it everyday but I just couldnt NOT wash it. My hair looks and feels better when I wash it at least 2 times a week. When I read Cathy Howse's book I realized it was the moisture.

Also...grease...never could stand the stuff. If I oil my scalp I do it while its wet and by the time it dries you cant tell it was ever there. The doctor had told my mother when we were little not to use grease so she used vaseline hair tonic which was basically light mineral oil with a nice fragrance. We never used grease much but friends and relatives pile that mess in. As long as they dont lean up against my couch I dont care

Great post! I sort of use this, and when I do I must admit, I'm never wrong! My only problem is when I DON'T listen to my inner voice! A lot of us are saying no, that we don't do this, but really many more do it than they think...........for example, when you're sitting in a salon chair and some little voice inside says PLEASE....JUST LEAVE!!! LEAVE NOW! IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU SAY OR HOW YOU EXPLAIN, JUST LEAVE................and then you don't and you end up with some uneven awful hair cut or someone who doesn't properly rinse the chemicals out or whatever! It happens. We all have intuition and as women our intuition is EXCELLENT, we just need to get quiet within ourselves and listen.

I use my intuition and COMMON SENSE when it comes to picking a salon. I never go, but my intuition told me NOT to do my color/highlights myself (lol)

so I needed to find a salon. I visited one and the girl had a pretty color in her hair, the salon was OK, but I just wasn't feeling a VIBE. I visited another and she had no color in her hair, but it was a healthy length and she seemed cool. I visited a "chain" salon and the woman had NO EDGES talkin about how many clients she had and blah, blah, blah. Well, I chose the second salon and my hair came out wonderful!
I ended up getting more than what I pd for: she introduced me to KeraCare and the benefits of ceramic irons! She and I had a great VIBE and rapport!

I use my dreams, more so than anything. I have dreams about products I should try and should completely forget about. When I take these recommendations seriously, I have had a lot of luck. I have started using creative visualization more, but I primarily get answers and recommendations in my dreams. I just had one recently,and acted on it ...

I certainly agree with this statement. I believe that this simple yet powerful exercise has accounted for every accomplishment I have made in my life and that I still have yet to make. Everything that I have dreamed and concentrated on as well as visualized, I have realized in my life. I do believe that in certain circumstances in life, one can will things to happen for them. For me, positive visualization is a very key component and the first step among many to achieving any goal in life. It has never failed me, along with my ability to use intuition and common sense to guide me towards what is right/best for me, my health, my life's choices, etc. And hoepfully, now, my hair goals!

I agree with what you said also, Ubavka123.

I too have achieved all of my goals this way and will continue to. I call it conscious creating. If people think about it, everything we see around us was once a dream before it became physical reality.

Since I found this board I feel like I'm getting in touch with my hair and giving it what it needs. Now that I'm more knowlegable about haircare, I feel like I can trust my intuition more. Part of intuition is paying attention to signs, so I'm always watching out...it's almost like a paranoia, lol! At this point I would be REALLY hard for me to trust anyone else with my hair.
