Hi ladies, What does it mean when someone tells you that you are called to be an intercessor? I thought all Christians had a duty to pray for people so is being called to do it different? Is thier a special anointing placed on people who are called to it? What is the spirit of intercession? I really need some help with this. The Lord puts so many people in my path that needs prayer. I always get their names and what they need prayer for. They always seem to open right up to me and tell their problems. Is there a difference between praying and interceeding on someones behalf? I feel such a sense of urgency about this topic. The Lord brought back to me a dream that I had once and In the dream I looked at my hands and they were covered in blood. I remember seeing blood running through my hands.
Thanks for the help.
Before I knew that intercession was my gift I would often find myself making lists of prayer requests that other people mentioned. And like you I didn't see the gift in myself, but my pastor at the time
did and asked me to head the new intercessory prayer group (it was a new campus ministry and they didn't already have one).
But since the enemy doesn't like intercessors I was plagued with doubts almost immediately: am I really an intercessor? how can my prayers be different from anyone else's? etc? It took me over 2 1/2 years to accept this as my gift. It would take me a long time to list all the ways the enemy tried to stop me from accepting this call from God. But I am glad that I did accept it.
An
EXCELLENT "manual" on intercessory prayer (which answered a lot of questions for me) was "Intercessory Prayer" by Dutch Sheets. I have a lot of books on prayer but that one is the BEST at explaining intercession as a gift and how to use it. Also, God doesn't speak to all intercessors the same way (kind of like with prophets) so don't feel bad if your gift doesn't look exactly the same as another intercessors.
Feel free to pm me if you want to.
Also, I almost forgot but when you mentioned the blood in your dream it reminded me of the Old Testament scripture where God told Ezekiel that if he didn't tell the people what He had given him to say, and warn the people of the consequences of their sin then their blood would be on Ezekiel's hands. The chapter was about how he was called to be a watchman (which is what intercessors are known to be). I would read the entire chapter of Ezekiel 3, but verses 17-19 are really poignant.
17"Son of man, I have appointed you a (
P)watchman to the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from My mouth, (
Q)warn them from Me. 18"When I say to the wicked, 'You will surely die,' and you do not warn him or speak out to warn the wicked from his wicked way that he may live, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his (
R)blood I will require at your hand.
19"Yet if you have (
S)warned the wicked and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have (
T)delivered yourself.
Maybe there are some people in your life who are on the path of sin and God wants you to pray for them and warn them.
P.S.
That scripture was the NASB version from bible.com
