Inevitable Breakage?

So, I've been on my hair journey officially for almost 6 months. I've definitely seen a great amount of improvement in my hair - thickness, natural sheen, good growth (especially on my once very damaged side). However, I still have little pieces of hair that break off.

But here's the thing...I've noticed that the strands that break off are oftentimes much thinner looking than my hair that sheds naturally. I think it's the old, unhealthy left over overprocessed hair. Since the rest of my hair is so healthy otherwise, I'm beginning to think that it's inevitable that these hairs are going to break no matter what I do and that I should just chill about it and continue with my hair regimen.

Any thoughts?

I get these little hairs too and mine look the same way. Your reasoning makes sense(I never thought about it like that). I do think that it is inevitable for some damaged hair to break. There is only so much protein treatments can do.

It's possible, I am no hair expert and I have only been at it for a few weeks now but I have seen those too. The ones that are whisper thin and snap like nothing under the slightest pressure.

Trim, trim, trim. I think you really have two choices - you can trim the thin, damaged, breaking ends now, oryou can watch them break and trim later.

I do dust every 6 to 8 weeks. I've noticed that as my hair gets healthier and healthier, I see fewer of them. It's not a big problem (i.e. I don't have severe breakage by any means), just a bit of an annoyance I suppose.

My big sis told me it is not beneficial to hold on to damaged ends, so I trimmed everything - a little over an inch. The really great thing is that since that time, I use a leave in and seal and have no more breaking ends.

I used to have breaking ends ALL of the time - little chips of hair that covered my clothes and sink and littered the bathroom floor. Trimmng at once above the remaining damaged parts (I had cut off everything in December) made a significant positive difference.

This is so true.:yep: I notice my ends only break when I need a trim.
It makes me wonder if it's even worth holding off on trimming....:ohwell:

ETA: I'm natural, so I can't use being overprocessed as an excuse...

What do you use as your daily moisturizer?

I use Jane Carter Nourishing Hair Cream and then seal with castor oil.

I plan on dusting next week, so I'll check for damaged ends then. But for the most part, overall, my ends are very healthy. It's just that there are some somewhere in there that aren't and I can't do an S&D to get those bad boys! :wallbash: And I'm not about to go trimming off a bunch of healthy ends just because a few are actin' up! LOL!!!

Well i think it is inevitable, im natural and started growing my hair back from bald in may. I also have some fine very very very fine strands that break and i have a few strands in general that just break, my hair on a whole is the healthiest its every been and i have very thick strands - with some medium mixed in. My hair is not breaking but some strands break, i think its natural...unless there is loads of breakage!

Yep, I think it's inevitable especially in the beginning of your journey. If your hair is 6 inches long, those ends are about a year old. If you just started taking care of your hair it might be too late for those ends. By the end of my first year my hair had stopped breaking but the ends were scraggly and had to be cut off anyway.

I'd just keep dusting, be super gentle, and keep it moisturized. You'll eventually get ahead of it. :yep:
