I was surfing the web for reviews on BT yesterday (have never used it before & am thinking of ordering some), and came across some posts on Essence.com that went waaaay beyond just a simple review of a recent hair article. From the messages, it totally digressed, and turned into a bash on LHCF in general, and a bash on BT specifically, and anyone saying it works, even though there were several posts from reviewers that said the product has worked for them. From other reviews on other sites that I've read in the past, I'm almost inclined to think that outside of our little LHCF family, the haters abound!!! Why is that? That Black women would attack other Black women in such a personalized way over a hair site or hair products?

In some ways, it's almost like some people get mad because you've found a 'secret' to hair growth that they missed out on or were unaware of. Or they're mad that we've formed a site to support & help sisters achieve long, thick, healthy hair, like it's some kind of exclusive clique or 'in-crowd' (which I might add, is not at all the spirit & attitude of this site)! Or they think you're promoting a product 'AS IF' you're actually participating in the profit-sharing plan! When all you're doing is saying the product has worked for you - you derive no personal gain from promoting the product except to help other people by spreading the word about it, based on your own experience. And what happened to supporting black-owned businesses & products anyway? Now if you buy them, but they don't work for you, so be it. Don't use them again, and you can let other people know about your experience with the products without personally attacking the people who might actually be benefitting from them.

Anybody else notice this while surfing the Web? What are your thoughts about why people do this?

I don't care. Their negativity hasn't affected the site or my interest in the site. And they are no different from some friend or relative bashing our hair care practices, just doesn't matter.

web thugs, half of them wouldn't even open there mouth if it was real life because they would be scared of gettin busted in it.

I noticed when I read Shamoosie's book, he downed using web boards for hair advice, but he had a few suspect pieces of advice w/n his own pages.

I kept wondering if he was being paid by Nexxus and Dudley.

Well, I don't really care about the haters. I know that I personally have received more information on this site than any haircare book I have ever read. Honestly, as another poster stated I feel some of this advise I have read in certain books and hair magazines is suspect anyway.

I say brush the haters off. Don't be mad at me with BT works for me and many, many others. Don't hate...CONGRATULATE! :congratulations::grin:

I personally love that I found this board. I think most people fell upon this site because they were ready to deal with groing their hair. I was. Just like weightloss you have to be buckle down mentally ready.

I think a lot of those people are sponsored by hair companies. I wouldn't shout someone out if i wasnt getting paid. I would make my own and shout my products out. Here on LHCF we can be honest because we like to here everyone's opinion. I've learned soooo much here, and can get feedback and advice that Shamboosie, Howse, Essence or whoever can't give me right away. I have never read one of their books, don twant to unless its free.

Let me be.

Well said.........remember that old saying, "misery loves company"? Those people hatin' on LHCF are nothing but a bunch of losers that can't grow their hair (they can grow it, it's just that their pea-brains are capable of interpreting info like we do), so they take their frustrations out on us, the ones who have success. I learn to look over people like that, as they don't have anything better to do in life than sit around and bash a hair board or hair care products. To those people, I just say get a life!!

Hmmm :scratchch well maybe it's the $5 that's bugging them? I really do think there are a number of people that come to this site looking for a miracle product so may jump on a couple of bandwagons (MN, MTG, baggying etc)without putting it in perspective (ie upping their moisturising, protective styling, moisture/ protein balance etc) and then get frustrated when they don't get the immediate (read 1-2 months) result of APL or BSL so they go out bashing and hating. But that's cool for me:look: I don't want all those heiffers on here anyway:hide:

Hmm. I think that if I were very, very small-minded, insecure, and deficient in knowledge about haircare, I would be extremely concerned about LHCF if my paycheck depended on my clients knowing NOTHING about her hair, and depended totally on me. After all, consider how many of us decide to take our haircare totally into our own hands----refusing to even visit a salon for a relaxer due to what we learn here.

However, I've read posts here from apparent stylists who are intelligent and open-minded, who have benefitted from the knowledge available on this forum...any benefit to them is directly translated to their clients. Vive la LHCF!!!!

you are right...all the growth aids in the world arent going to help you if you arent taking care of your hair to retain the growth you achieve.

The funny thing or maybe ironic factor in the whole situation;they are the lurkers on here getting information.:lachen:

Sometimes, I feel as if they don't want anyone else to have long hair but them.:look:

Sounds like that person has beef with some people on LHCF, not LHCF itself. I have noticed there is a competition of hair boards, so to speak. I have seen folx on here put down other boards and vice versa. It's really not that serious. If a product doesn't work, all you have to do is say it doesn't work. No need to bad mouth the person. If you do all that, I would be suspect of your advice anyway.

ahhh the classic internet beef

if it were me, i would suggest they meet me for lunch and say it to my face!

Rest assured...the war in Iraq, rising crude prices, the plight of our young black males, the state of black male/female unions, etc., does NOT rest on the haters of LHCF, but I do find the psychology behind why people would do such things sad, pathetic and misguided...but oh so amusing! lol

Ahhh the haters are everywhere. May they someday find a piece of mind and possibly....a life. :nono:

Anyhoo, I noticed whenever ppl get together and got a good thing going on, the haters come ah lurking. They can't help themselves. Like someone else said, "misery loves company" and misery hates to see ppl NOT being so.....miserable.:perplexed

Subscribing to this site was one of the best things I've ever done. It's a comforting feeling to know that I have somewhere to go for excellent advice, help, research, different techniques, fun environment and visual aides! And with my sis being relaxed and me natural we be on here together which is another plus.

Besides, I rather take the advice of real ppl with real results rather than read a book or magazine...:yep::yep:

I guess I'm a bit surprised that black women would get together to bash LHCF. I mean it really serves its main purpose which is to provide a forum in which to share a wealth of ideas, techniques on how to grow thick, beautiful, healthy hair. So again, what is there to hate about it? What's the problem:perplexed? This one is beyond me...

Well you have to look at it this way, everything is not for everybody. And sometimes when people come to this board, they are just not ready to absorb the information presented here because they are still close minded. I mean think about it, there are a lot of methods and techniques on this board that people on the outside may think are strange or crazy. Especially if they are basing their truths about black hair on the myths that are out there. We all probably felt that way when we initially came here (I still feel that way about some things that people do here on the board but that's just my opinion). So I can understand why they think this board is strange or the info is bad. It's just not their time.

Also, a lot of times when people are looking for solutions to their hair problems they are looking for something that will fix it instantly. But we all know that it takes time. And they're not going to want to put in all the time and effort the ladies on this board put into their hair.

ITA. It's just so sad:nono:.

Yes there will always be naysayers, period. With whatever you want to do in life. Hair is a major component of African American Beauty. And for many of us it has been a struggle to maintian a good regime and hence long healthy hair.

It's too bad but it's to be expected. I personally have leanred more from this site than any stylist, hair care book, or anything else so I am grateful.
