I was surfing the web for reviews on BT yesterday (have never used it before & am thinking of ordering some), and came across some posts on Essence.com that went waaaay beyond just a simple review of a recent hair article. From the messages, it totally digressed, and turned into a bash on LHCF in general, and a bash on BT specifically, and anyone saying it works, even though there were several posts from reviewers that said the product has worked for them. From other reviews on other sites that I've read in the past, I'm almost inclined to think that outside of our little LHCF family, the haters abound!!! Why is that? That Black women would attack other Black women in such a personalized way over a hair site or hair products?
In some ways, it's almost like some people get mad because you've found a 'secret' to hair growth that they missed out on or were unaware of. Or they're mad that we've formed a site to support & help sisters achieve long, thick, healthy hair, like it's some kind of exclusive clique or 'in-crowd' (which I might add, is not at all the spirit & attitude of this site)! Or they think you're promoting a product 'AS IF' you're actually participating in the profit-sharing plan! When all you're doing is saying the product has worked for you - you derive no personal gain from promoting the product except to help other people by spreading the word about it, based on your own experience. And what happened to supporting black-owned businesses & products anyway? Now if you buy them, but they don't work for you, so be it. Don't use them again, and you can let other people know about your experience with the products without personally attacking the people who might actually be benefitting from them.
Anybody else notice this while surfing the Web? What are your thoughts about why people do this?
