Celebrity and gossip magazine In Touch Weekly is coming under fire after publishing a picture comparing Solange Knowles to a dog. In a column called “Double Creature” the magazine published the following reader-submitted picture and blurb;

“Yorkipoo Jackie is “basically twinsies” with Beyoncé’s sis, says the 5-year-old pup’s owner, Brian Murray Jr. ‘They rock the same hairdo…’
A web search for In Touch Weekly’s “Double Creature” feature didn’t produce any results outside of the Solange reference, so it’s unclear whether or not this is a regular column. It still is tasteless (not surprising for a gossip magazine) and a sobering reminder of the resistance some black women face when they choose to rock their natural hair unapologetically. The comparison feels particularly shady given that Solange’s recent media coverage has mainly involved her stunning, stylish and universally praised wedding.

Thoughts? Is In Touch out of line or is the article over-thinking the incident?

I don't know who that is (I am not into celebrities) but I think it is offensive. Dogs are ugly and dirty so I think it is offensive to compare anyone to a dog.

I'm offended but the column is compare your pet to a celebrity. I'd imagine a lot of people send in photos of their pets alongside celebs. Snoop dog does really look like a doberman pinscher....and he owns it.

That's the thing. I can't see a white woman's hair being compared to a dog. The magazine is saying that her hair reminds them of their dog. I'm disgusted.

I can see how this can be offensive but I have a poodle and people have actually commented that we have the same hair style. I usually laugh because I've actually thought the same.

Now these were black folks. If a non-black person approached me in the same manner I'd probably be offended.

I'm not offended that their hair/fur is being compared, but the "twinsies" comment is too much.

This is my dog. Her head and ears create the same shape as my braidouts. She was just groomed so the hair is straight. But its looks even more similar when it curls up

Your dog is so cute. I have a big forehead and my mom often says that my dog and I have the same shape forehead. My dog " Chloe" is a Pomeranian, and she does have a big forehead...so I guess!

I think the article is a little tasteless, but I'm sure solange has seen and been compared to worse.

When I look at that dog's fur I don't see anything in common with my hair texture. It actually resembles more of a Eurocentric texture hair style since its so straight.

White people usually think any kind of curly hair is comparable to afro hair. Just look at "afro" tutorials on youtube. I remebr a stylist calling silky 3c hair "overly coarse" hair. I dont yake too much offense to this as i just chalk it up to stupid things white people say about black hair.

I was referring to the shape. I also mentioned that she was just groomed. They blow out the hair. When water hits it, it curls up.

Thank you.

They funny things is that I had been searching for cottony 3c info recently and I kept on getting sites about dog hair. I can see why it's offensive but I have to admit that my hair does resemble a poodle.

It's your dog though, everyone always says the owner and their dog begin to look alike whether serious or joking, pet humor. This is just some random dog they put side by side with her, it's basically like those ignorant memes we see floating around.
