in panic mode...

this morning, i washed my hair, and the shedding was just SOOOO bad! you know how you grab your ends after you comb to smooth them? i did that and had at least 20 full hair strands in my hand. i don't even want to take pics this month for fear of how thin my hair will be.

i don't think there's anything i can "do" but leave it alone and wait for the BC pill to leave my system. i just wanted to vent...

Sorry that BC is still causing problems for you. 20 is not tooo bad is it? Faith looking hopeful. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

no, that's not including what i combed out. that was after i combed. i took a pic but didn't have time to post in picture trail yet. the thing is it's coming out, and my hair isn't even tangled AT ALL. that's the scary part... /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I am so sorry to hear its not getting better. I know the feeling. I was losing so much a little while back. I wanted to cry every time I combed my hair.

Hopefully once the bc is out of your system, it will get better. If you don't mind me asking, which pill was it?

Adrienne,

I'm so sorry that you are experiencing this!!! /images/graemlins/frown.gif It's so odd how you posted about shedding because I was going to page you this morning about it. I saw the last picture you posted and I was wondering what steps you're taking to slow it down. I read in a post that you said you don't deep condition anymore. Have you started doing them again or do you think it won't make a difference?

I am sorry that you are experiencing this. When I stopped the BC pill I had a ton of shedding so I know the feeling.
Is there any way you can minimize the combing? I know we have to comb and detangle but is ther any way you can just finger comb and then put it in a bun to be left alone?

Just remeber it's only temporary b/c of the pill.

Also try calling the Natural Health Clinic at 800-798-4372 or 323 294-4372 for local calls
Herbal Blood Builder is something they suggest for hair shedding b/c of the pill. It is basically a potent iron supplement.

girrrrrl, which wasn't it? lol! the last one was Yasmin. before that, it was Ortho-tricyclen. before that, i had the Depo Provera shot. before that, i took Ortho-Novum...

Adrienne,
Despite your hair loss u are still joking! U have such a GREAT attitude! Have you been wearing your hair up in the bun with the phony pony? Does that help minimize the shedding??? Good Luck and don't fret! This too shall pass!

girl, all i can do is laugh. otherwise i'd be crying like a baby. this morning i almost did.

my dilemma with the bun is that since my hair is coming out so easily, it's wearing out my hairline. i finally broke down and got liquid vitamin E oil. blkmane recommended that i add rosemary to it to further stimulate my scalp (thanks, blkmane!). i actually used an empty Avon Dry Ends Serum bottle and put rosemary and peppermint oils with the vitamin E. it's so convenient that i've been using it more often than i did the capsules.

it would be working great, but the shedding is stronger than the concoction around my hairline. while i'm seeing new hairs there, i'm also still losing the long ones.

have u tried a very very very loose updo? Something like a variation of the french roll. Maybe you could have some of the front hairs down and curled under???? Are u sure it is the BC? Have you changed relaxers, introduced a new hair product, or have any new stress??? I know u know all these things but before when I had a different formulation of a relaxer it caused my hair to shed like there was no tomorrow. I used another type of relaxer and the shedding stopped immediately......!!!!
STAY STRONG. My girlfriend who just had a baby is having hair issues too HORMONES I tell u, but don't worry!!!!! U will be A ok!!! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

thanks for the number, valleygirl! i would call now, but it's so quiet in my office. i don't want these people up in my pesonal. lol! i'll let you know what they say. i've also started a little searchy search on the blood builder. interesting.... /images/graemlins/grin.gif

i almost forgot to mention that with the bun/ponytail, the only time i comb my hair is after i wash. otherwise, i finger comb.

adrienne

I'm sorry to hear that your having problems with your hair Adrienne. I agree with Nay Nay make sure that it's not the Affirm relaxer that is shedding your hair. I know I experienced the same thing when I changed my relaxer. Adrienne I'm going to tell you what stopped my breakage immediately and that was Aphogee I don't care what type of problem I ever had as far as shedding or whatever the case may be Aphogee will do the job no doubt. Please keep me posted and Good Luck.

yes, because this is a recurring thing that usually starts after i've changed BC pills, i was kind of waiting for it this time. lol! i did change relaxers, but it had already kicked in before i did. i haven't really changed any of the other products that i use.

i guess i will have to try a loose updo, but it's hard because when i exercise, i sweat in my head. so it will be hard to maintain. we'll see...

thanks for the encouragement, naynay!! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sorry about the shedding. I was just at the Doctor this morning and I told him about a problem and he said it was because of BC. I wish they could make them without all the side affects. Everything will be ok... You'll see. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Shedding or not, your hair is such an inspiration. I know you will get under control. I can't give you any advice-my hair looks jacked up right now- but I certainly wish you well.

Hi Adrienne,
Please don't panic; it'll get better sweetie. I'm sure that I'm not alone when I say this...you are the rock of this board; we draw our strength from you and your incredible journey. This is just another bump in the road; it can be driven over. I know this is heartbreaking for you...it's heartbreaking just to read about it. But, the Good Lord did not oversee your hair path just to leave you stranded.

I'm praying that he will lift this burden from your heart & give you back that tenacious spirit you had when you began your hair journey. And yes, as I said before in the "Have you reached your goal" thread, your hair "will be" sitting in the chair with you....no, not from shedding, but from growth /images/graemlins/smile.gif.

I hope these words give you some comfort.
God Bless,
Peachtree

adrienne I'm really sorry this is happening to you again.

Shedding is one of the most unsettling things to see. Would a deep protein treatment help? or one of those 'emergency' treatments? Its not stopping the cause but at least minimizing the symptoms? Just a thought.

I agree that you will get through this. You've come so far now and you obviously know how to grow your hair.

Adrienne,
Hopefully you are doing better! I KNOW u r! Peachtree is right u r an inspiration to the hair care board! Also just for your information the relaxer that caused me all the shedding and heartache was AFFIRM Mild!

Ditto to what everyone said Adrienne. And I just want to remind you that you have been through this several times before and at no point does it seem like you had so much shedding that it negatively impacted the look and feel of your hair.

I KNOW it's alarming - I'm not at all saying you aren't validly upse, I porolly woulda lost my mind by now! /images/graemlins/blush.gif - but sometimes we see the hair coming out and we swear we're gonna go bald when we never ever have before. But I PROMISE it will be fine. You came this far pushing through this self same issue and you will again.

It'll STOP babe. And unfortuantely, most likely NOT as a result of anything you do. If this is hormonal (and it really sounds like it is) then the most you can do is to try to restore the body's chemical balance naturally - by making sure you get adequate nutrition etc (that blood bulider sounds like a fabulous idea).

For the record (just my opinion) I don't think protein treatments are a good idea if you are pretty sure this isn't damage we're dealing with. Treatments that are too strong (and are being used 'just in case') could actually dry the hair out more and cause more problems. Your hair isn't overprocessed or damaged in any way. Stay away from protein. Give it some moisture and try to regulate your insides gently and it will stop.

I promise honey. You went through this time and time again and at the end of the day it's still YOUR hair that's on our homepage. It's all gonna be ok gurl!

Hugs chica! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

<font color="blue"> Adrienne sorry to hear about your delema /images/graemlins/frown.gif Just wanted to know that we'er all here for you. We all have cringed at having hairs in our combs.
It sounds like they are long strands.....so that means that your hair isn't breaking...its from the root. (correct me if i'm wrong)
My mom has waist lenght hair and when she does get aroung to combing it a lot of it comes out. She only combs her hair about once a week if that.
I think you should still take pics...because then you'll know if you should be concerned
*sends you a huge hug*

Dang girl. That totally sucks.

{{{Adrienne}}}

I haven't experienced the amount of shedding you're describing but when I have shed, I just let it run its course. This is pretty much the advice I've read on other hairboards.

I know you're wanting a quick fix to stop this shedding in its tracks, but honestly I have not heard of any. The only thing I can suggest is eating right and applying a mixture of essential and carrier oils that are recognized as scalp stimulants. This way, after the hormones from the BC pill have left your system, your follicles are in optimal health and you will be able to take full advantage of their growth potential.

I don't know what else to tell ya boo.

lshevonne, i wish they could make them without all the side effects too. which BC are you taking, and did he suggest a different one?

keylargo, what's going on with your hair? tell me all about it!! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

peachtree, thank you so much!! your post gave me goosebumps and was right on time. i know that there are those who will wonder why we would pray on hair, but if you believe, YOU BELIEVE!! thank you!

BRH, i already do protein treatments with GPB, but i don't think a deep one would benefit my hair anymore because it's whole hairs that i'm losing. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

tracy, thanks for the encouragement. it does help. you know that compulsive me has saved all the hair i've lost since october. the reason i did this is because i want to be sure it's not just my imagination. that ziploc is FULL, girl. lol!

i'm definitely going to try out the blood builder that valleygirl suggested. i was completely unaware of it. i also upped my MSM. remember musicmoviestar? she reminded me that that's how i sped up the detox from the depo shot last year.

caramelbarbie, you're definitely correct that the hair is coming from the root. i HATE that. at least with breakage you don't have to start all the way over. ya know? lol!

svt, for the first time, i think my diet is really good right now because of this fitness site that helps me track it. i get graded daily on what i eat. lol! i'm also doing the oils thing. it's working around my hairline. i put it all over my scalp last night and washed out this morning. i hope that will help. thanks for the suggestions.

thanks for your support to everyone who responded. i'll try not to stress about this anymore!!! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Adrienne,
Sorry about your hair. The good thing is that you know exactly what is causing it and that it is only temporary. So, don't distress too much.

It sounds like you are doing all the right things. You have given me so much valuable hair advice I wish I had some that would help, but it seems like the haircare gurus here have shared some valuable information. /images/graemlins/smile.gif I hope the blood builder works for you. Sorry you're experiencing severe shedding again. /images/graemlins/frown.gif But I agree with Tracy: stay positive, you've survived shedding before and come out with a glorious head of hair each time /images/graemlins/smile.gif - this current state too shall pass.

I'm taking Estrostep. For the most part I can say it's doing ok for me. He gave me a prescription for something else to help my other problem he thinks it may have caused.

Adrienne, I'm sorry that this is happening again. I know you've gone through this not long ago, and it's definitely unnerving. Maybe it's a seasonal thing, or maybe it's just your hair's natural cycle. Just keep doing what you're doing. Your hair is so beautiful that I'm sure the problem will pass soon. If all else fails, maybe try talking with a trichologist. He or she might be able to suggest what steps you can take while the BCPs come out of your system.

Good luck!!! /images/graemlins/wink.gif
