In da club

Not sure why he chose to bleep out certain lyrics of the song it's deceptive misleading the true intent in the lyrics of the song...the venue is another matter...

My two cents ...

1. I will never wrap my mind around the necessity in dressing Christian lyrics in "worldly" attire, but if it gets people to come to Christ, then hey. If it's getting the job done (not just getting people to come to Christ but keeping them there), then that's what is important. I just know, for me, listening to the "worldly attire" detracts me from the message of the song. This is my first time hearing "In Da Club" and all my body wanted to do was dance "worldly". The message escaped me until I forced myself to really absorb the lyrics, which only lasted for a few seconds before I went back to dancing.

2. I've only been to one Christian "club" type setting. While it was a better alternative to your typical club, it isn't something I see as necessary. There needn't been an alternative. "Let's mimic the worldly club except we'll swap out the Top 40s for Christian music and the alcohol for Kool-aid". But why though? Why the need for a Christian "club"? So that we can have something to do on a Friday/Saturday night? What's wrong with the countless other Christian events we could be doing on Friday/Saturday night? But again, Canton Jones said that hundreds were saved that night, so I guess it works for some.

Just because I cannot understand it and it is wrong for me ... doesn't me that it is wrong for others. I associated too much with the secular form of music and clubbing in the past that I have to dissociate with it even if a Christian message is wrapped up in it.

OT (but not really): I was taught that using the phrase "Oh my G**" -- except in praise, prayer, and worship -- was a form of taking the Lord's name in vain. Was anyone else taught this? Off to research ...

Yes I was and I still feel this way to some extent. However, I feel only God can determine if someone has taken his name in vain. People could literally be crying out to God when they use it but because I wouldn't do it in that situation, I might see them as using his name in vain and vice versa. For example, I was eating cantaloupe the other day and kept saying OMG OMG this is so good thank you Jesus for giving me this delicious fruit. I was really so grateful for having that cantaloupe lol fruit is God's dessert for us:yep: But if I had just said OMG and left it at that, is that wrong? Would someone else view it as wrong? Probably! So if someone randomly yells OMG for any situation (that I can't even think of right now because I generally don't do it), who are we to say whether or not they are saying it in vain?

Although I must say, I have no idea what you're talking about because I did not read your previous post. I tend to read threads backwards lol

ETA: I thought of a scenario. I have a friend who says "Oh God" all the time. It used to irritate me. For example, I would tell her about some crazy nonsense that happened at school and she'd say "Oh God". I have no idea if she's thinking "Lord have mercy on them" or what, so I do not say anything.

Like what? I actually would like to visit the Christian lounge they have here. It's a great way to meet like minded people for me. It irritates me that I cannot find any friends who are serious about their Christian journey and all they want to do is club on the weekend and be the first ones in church on Sunday. I'd like to be able to meet other Christians but can't really do that without social functions such as a Christian lounge.

Ok so I watched the video. Yeah I personally don't like the way he uses it and for me, it would be in vain. I was trying to find a way around it but nope.

I used to be part of this one fellowship and after Friday bible studies we'd go bowling, to a restaurant, just chill and chat, hold a potluck, or just be sufficient with being spiritually fed at the bible study. Christians can also get together to watch an appropriate movie or serve at the soup kitchen. There are plenty more activities.

I like the idea of a Christian lounge, assuming it's a place where one can gather to listen to live gospel music (or even music like Chris Tomlin or Hillsong) ... very much like a praise and worship atmosphere. It's the Christian club that I'm against, but then again, I've only been to one and the one I saw in this video didn't help my view. But that's me and I can't put my restrictions for myself on other Christians.

Are there any fellowships in your area?

I feel like those activities are for people who already know eachother. Like if I had like-minded friends, I could invite them over for dinner or movie/game nights. But unless someone actually invites me to that sort of activity, that wouldn't be a place for me to meet others.

The church I attend is about 30 mins from me and since I am in medical school, I cannot drive out there throughout the week to be involved in the church like I was when I was home.

ETA: Now that I think about it, there are a few of my classmates and we've attempted to fellowship. We had a weekly bible study during lunch that somehow fell off the radar. Guess we just got too consumed with studying and I should reach out and see what happened.

I also did not like the club in the video. Looked like a hip-hop concert.

At the bolded: Now that sounds like a good idea.:yep:

I hear ya though. "Narrow is the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." Finding like-minded Christians is a task.

I had to turn down a Christian friend who wanted to go clubbing. We met at church, sat together every Sunday, and were just developing a friendship. She never contacted me again after that turndown.

I don't like the OMG phrase, he could've kept that out. I like Christian rap, but sometimes they take it too far. In one particular song I heard, he was talking about "slangin on the corner" but he said he was talking about "slangin the word." lol. I just don't see the point.

I've heard it explained that way but I also am taught that taking G-d's name in vain is referring to taking oaths one is not at all going to fulfill. So, as a priest told me, if you get angry and say "JC," then finish it with "is L-rd." :lachen:

“In Da Club” (Official Lyrics)

Chorus:

They done let them Christians in the club
Oh my God! They done let them Christians in the club (8x)
Verse:
Oh my God, look at all these Christians in the club
Look at all my fellas showin love
We done bought the bar, not what you think exactly
Tell the bartender we servin virgin daquiris
I wanna party sober, and I get a buzz off this music
Get high off the spirit, when I feel it, can’t lose it
Atmosphere is crazy, everybody feel the same
And man if you ain’t feeling this than you a certified lame
I came in the name of the one who sent me
Pulling up clean in an all black Bentley
Close the door gently, step out stuntin
We done covered all charges so everybody comin
Long line outside, be patient, no skippin
Extra police incase people start trippin
Leave your gun home and put your dope away
Cause you don’t really need all that to party anyway
Chorus:
Oh my God! They done let them Christians in the club (8x)
Verse:
Can’t stop em so you might as well join em
Christians walkin round acting like they’re club owners
Even the DJ is with them Christians
And when he yells “Switch!”, every Christian switches
Man, you either want to be one or be with one
And, You’re trying to figure out just how to get one to come
and talk to you, have a conversation All these Christians in the
club, tell me what’s your hesitation
I see two over there, and three over there
And four in the back with their hands in the air
Unified, got much power
Laughin and giggling like its comedy hour
My God! They done let them Christians in the club
And them Christians is talking to them thugs and showin love
And them thugs is askin and wonderin, they tryin to see
Where the party’s gonna be the followin week, now we gone see

My honest opinion - It's pure foolishness. Period.

I feel this EXACT same way, in fact just this morning before I saw this, I was researching where I could find a social meet up for Christians in my area.

I hope this isn't taken the wrong way, but I always wondered what are the ages of people who don't like Christian rappers like Lecrae. I'm 25 and i would love a Christian lounge and a place to socialize and I think most younger Christians would too, especially Christians like me who used to club and party and are now trying to renew their minds with the Word of God.

I wonder if age is a factor in those who don't understand/like this idea or the idea of Christian rappers.

What are some fun things that a young Christian can get dressed up for and have fun or just chill and socialize with other Christians?

ETA: I didn't even look at this video because Im at work, just read some of the comments so I haven't heard the song.

Just read the lyrics and I definitely don't agree with the "oh my God" part or calling others lame. It sounds less like a Christian club and more like a secular club that Christians are attending.

This song aside, I would love to go to a Christian lounge to socialize with other like-minded Christians. Hopefully I can find one when I move to Atlanta this summer.

Again. This is mess....

"extra police incase people start trippin"...:ohwell:

This surely isnt a Christian lounge. I am 25 years old and this doesnt appeal to me AT ALL. When I came into God and left the world, I left the club behind too...

"And them thugs is askin and wonderin, they tryin to see
Where the party’s gonna be the followin week, now we gone see"

So they not asking how to give their lives to Christ, they want to know where the next party is....hmmmm ok :ohwell:

How is God glorified in this at all???

I think he explains in another video that they rented out a very popular night club in Atlanta, and invited 'big' name pastors and gospel artists like Kiki Sheard and Kirk Franklin...

I'm 22 and I've never heard a Christian rap song that I liked....ok maybe one or two....I can't remember. But most of it SOUNDS wack to me and if I don't like how it sounds I can't even listen to the words.

I would enjoy a lounge but it would be just that. A lounge! With music playing in the background and fellowshipping (mingling, chatting, etc). Not me hoppin around like I'm listening to Waka because I like the beat.

I thought revelling referred to clubs and bars. Other translations translate it to drinking parties so that's what I took it to mean.

Really??? Are you a fan of secular rap? You don't like any of Lecrae's music or his crew???

Right, I would like to go to a LOUNGE too... I don't think it would be appropriate for it to look like a secular club...everyone bouncing around and booty popping to to gospel music LOL

I have no idea who Lecrae is lol Is that the guy who's video I watched? lol I don't seek Christian rap. I just randomly hear it and don't end up like it. Yes I love rap and hip hop but I try to limit what I listen to.

Girl I have a friend who dances to Fred Hammond. I have to remind her of what she's listening to sometimes cause she looks like she's at the club smh
