I'm Tired of Coloring my HAIR!

I have been putting color rinses and now demi colors in my hair for years and I'm really tired of it! I will be the big 50 next year and I'm seriously thinking about giving in to the gray. Right now, my roots are gray and I did a semi 2 wks ago when I did my relaxer. This is working me overtime! The problem is, I think I will have to wear a wig until the gray comes in evenly because of all of the different colors going on. The ng roots are grey, the next 2 inches are brassy red and the remainder of the hair is dark black. I must need to see a professional. Anyone else facing this dilema?

Is it possible to do one color application now to cover the roots and the red bit?
That way as the hair grows in grey it'll all be uniform?

I guess I could. But when the ng comes in, it is a silvery gray and the other hair is still a different color. I hate I ever started coloring my hair. I should have just left it alone. I don't want to color forever, but when I don't color it a few weeks, it looks unkempt.

I've been gray since turning 16. My hair has a skunk line down the middle.:nono: I will be 40 this Oct. 10. I also think about this all the time, but my inner Eve makes me color each time.:ohwell:

I hear you! I got a similar problem and yes that NG comes in fast. A professional should be able to lift the color between the shaft and roots, but you may need a blendable color to finish off the look. Either way, I wouldn't attempt this at home. Make a consultation appointment and see what can be done.

Hope it works out for you.

When you find the answer, please let me know! I use Bigen, which does a great job, but my skunk patch shows up in less than three weeks! I want my hair to grow, just not the skunk patch!

I guess I'll continue for at least another year...

I have Grey and I've Been Henna/Indigo'ing since being on the Forum and it's the best decision I've made to tackle my Grey.

It lasts longer and it's more friendlier than Boxed Dye's. And I've had them all Permanent/Semi/Demi/Rinse You name it.

The Benefits & Shine of Henna/Indigo has far outweighed the day-long process.

Oh I see, I thought you meant u didn't like the red color + black color as the silver color grew in.

Would you dye everything silvery grey?:ohwell:

janeemat I do feel your pain and that's one reason that I decided to give up the relaxer 5 plus years ago--because to me the double process of relaxing and then coloring was too much time at the salon (cause I wasn't doing it myself) and it seemed really taxing on my head...now, I just color...but these greys are something serious!!!! :yep: :yep:

this doesn't answer the question, but just wanted to say that the other day, i spotted this lady in atlanta with a full head of silver hair and it was one of the most beautiful things i've ever seen (no exaggeration). she rocked that hair with so much pride, it almost made me look forward to greying. maybe i'll feel differently when i do start getting my greys  but just wanted to throw that out there

i hope you're able to find a good solution :yep:

I dont have this problem yet but I've seen some alternatives that aren't as tedious!

My mom uses this dye foam stuff and she loves it way more then rinses.
I've also seen these dye markers where you color the grays on the show doctor oz!

I dont know names specifically but I hope this helps you look up some alternatives!

I came in to suggest the temporary spray colors and markers for coloring hair. You could use this around the edges and where you may part your hair until it grows out. I've seen this stuff at Sally's.

I am an advocate for henna and indigo if you decide to color again.

I have left my skunk patch grow in (actually my whole head is grey except for some small areas, nice silvery grey like my mom's) and I've received a lot of compliments from both men and women :) I dye the rest lol with Bigen.
I'm going to be 40 in September and the only thing stopping me from going grey is that
1.I'm doing IVF and my vanity won't let me be a pregnant woman with a full head of grey and
2.I want to reach MBL and in order to go grey I want to cut it all off and maintain a sassy cut.

My mental cut off date to go grey is about your age OP.

here's the link to a thread about my mother's hair, she was first salt and pepper when she was 35 and all silver since her mid-40s. I loooove her hair.

janeemat, we sound like twins! if it didn't look so crazy I would take a pic and upload! But for now, I got this wig in 1B (off black), trimmed it to my preference and have been rocking it with many compliments! I will decide later what I am going to do but for now this is it...

I had planned to go gray at 50, so your plan doesn't sound bad to me! I have so much, I may have to revise it to 45. A lady from my church has gorgeous waist length hair and her gray is fierce! If i can get enough length, I will go another year in wigs. My ultimate goal, uniformly colored hair! I may go to henna, we shall see...

Whoaaaaa!!!! You could've fooled me, you look 25 in your avatar pic:blush::yep:
But to stay on topic, I think grey hair (especially if its long) is beautiful and shows a certain kind of 'regal-ness' and maturity that I admire.

The products I use also turn my hair an off red color. So I have the red, gray, and black color. My greys are like super white.:rolleyes:

I know how you feel, because I have colored my hair red and blonde throughout the years. When the grey hair started coming in strong, instead of having to deal with the 3 colors (my natural hair is black), I just gave in and colored all of my hair black. In the last 2 months I decided not to color my grey anymore and just let it grow. What is interesting to me is that you can really see how much your hair is growing just looking at the grey hair growing from the roots. I cant wait to have a silver streak from root to tip.

Wow! Thanks ladies. I was beginning think that I was the only one dealing with this gray hair problem. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this hair yet. I mentioned a wig to my husband and he was like:nono::nono::nono:! Relaxer pulls a lot of the color out. My next relaxer is due in Sep when I'm on vacation. So I just may skip adding color then to see what this mess looks like...lol. Meanwhile I have to figure something out now. At almost 100 degrees every day a wig is out for now. When the winter comes, I will just ignore DH and make my purchase.:yep:
