I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the handful

I am losing about 100 plus hairs a day and i'm sick to death of it. I'm also seeing little pieces of it all over the place. I trimmed 2.5 inches alomst 2 months ago and now my ends seem a hot mess even though i dont use heat except to blowdry every 2 weeks-- and they are too tangled after airdrying so i'm not even gonna bother. I seriously am contemplating whether or not i should chop this crap off and go natural. My hair seems to be getting so damn thin. I'm 4b and have very thick hair usually so this is just really not something that i'm used to at all. I hate it.

There is no thickness or fluff to my hair at all, just a big stringy mess hanging there and i just want to scream. I feel like taking off 3 more inches tonight. I'm trying to stay away from the scissors until i have a cooler temper. I just had to rant. Thanks for listening because i'm at the brink.

Stay calm, don't let it get to you. I know exactly how you feel, my hair is natural and I was feeling like I just had to get rid of my end ( I did but I was feeling more relaxed and less desperate). Just try to keep your ends sealed(oiled) and if that doesn't work and you feel like you just have to, go for it. But make sure you won't regret it later. /images/graemlins/smile.gif /images/graemlins/smile.gif /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the handful

Jainy,
I just checked out your album with a bit of jealously->your hair looks extremely thick, girl...
Try to calm down, your probably just dealing with seasonal shedding.

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

Jainy, do you know why you are thinning? Is it from stress, hormones, bad relaxer?

Well, I had major shedding, which started about 2 months ago. I used Keraphix and saw an immediate and I do mean immediate difference. My shedding is post-partum hormonal shift. My stylist told me to use Penetrait one week, Keraphix the next, back to Penetrait and then Nexxus Emergencee.

I don't know if this will work for you, but it made an incredible difference for me. Before you chop everything off, try this first. HTH

Thanks everyone...i'm attempting to stay calm but i'm so on the edge of just grabbing the scissors. My husband just got home from work and took one look at my face and asked "what's wrong?" i'm so frustrated right now i swear.

Webby ---- I had major shedding about 8 months ago, I'm thinking it could be that i'm not getting the proper amount of protein. I've posted about that in the past but i've been trying to get the proper amount each day. Since i stopped eating most types of meat last november (poultry, beef, pork) i've been trying to get the daily amount that i need, but i may not be reaching that amount. Could lack of protein be causing my hair to snap as well as shed? I see little broken pieces among the long shedded strands. I'm freaking out because it's just so much hair. I will be going to look for those 2 items this weekend as well Webby. Thanks for the info.

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

You not the only one. I'm over here shedding like crazy, but luckily I haven't lost any thickness. I think it's the season. I just have to work extra hard to keep my hair healthy, I did a treatment last night and I barely lost hair today.

I think you should kick the maintanence into high gear before going for the big chop.

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

Step away from the scissors! I really don't see the "thin" ends you're talking about in your Sept. pics. Your hair looks healthy and thick. At any rate....don't make any rushed decisions.

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

Jainy

From looking at your album, your hair is beautiful. I think you're being way to hard on yourself. Trust me, if you remember some of my post from about 2 months ago, I was loosing so much hair I thought I would be bald by now. I was losing over 100 hairs every time I touched my hair. I was afraid to wash or comb. Using the NTM deep recovery mask really helped. It cut down the shedding & breaking about 40%. Then, when I finally did the Emergencee treatment, the shedding & breaking has been reduced down to about 80%. I will do another Emergencee treatment this weekend and then go on a maintenance plan of Emergencee every 6 weeks and Keraphix/Humectress every week. I think that will drop the shedding & breakage out almost completely.

Can you pin point anything that has changed that may have caused this reaction. My doctor left me a message yesterday that my blood test showed I was back to being severly anemic. I think the lack of iron is also causing some of my hair loss. Is your iron level o.k. and are you drinking your water?

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

WOw. YOu should cool down before you do something that you regret ...like cutting your hair off. It's ironic because I was in your position LAST NIGHT! My hair is finally growing back since my inch long hair cut back in March. I spend tons of money on products (some work, some don't) and I get tired of excessive shedding, no shine, rough ends (especially when you just got them trimmed), snaps easy...yea, I know how you feel. I went and got my hair done this morning after spending hours of washing/conditioning/rolling/wrapping/drying/styling. I feel a lot better and look better and it only cost me $30 (which I really couldn't afford). Sometimes it just takes a good time to go to a stylist and let them condition it. That's what I did today. HTH. Muah!

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

I've added a few pics to my album to show what i'm talking about.

This is EXACTLY how i feel. Just seeing the amount of strands every day is making me paranoid to even touch it but at the same time i'm checking on it all day long. I just had my physical last month with the Gen Prac. I'm gonna ask what were my levels from my blood tests as well. I will also be checking out this hair mask in addition to the products that Webby mentioned. Thanks everyone for not thinking i'm an obsessed wacko. It's just that i'm thinking i KNOW i'm not doing anything on purpose to make my hair act this way so why is this happening. It has me feeling like i avoid doing all kinds of bad stuff to my hair yet i'm still gonna lose it?!? Thanks again everyone /images/graemlins/kiss.gif -- jainygirl

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

in sisterly love /images/graemlins/kiss.gif i am sorry to hear about this.

i went through the same thing a little over 3 yrs ago. i was so hurt..and tired of it. a few months later i transitioned and havent looked back. i am loving my natural hair and its longer and stronger than it has ever been.

but please..make sure if u decide to cut ..it is what U want to do so that there will be no regrets later. i went natural because i was tired of the shedding AND because i loved natural hair.

whatever you choose to do...BE HAPPY and try not to stress too much.
peace

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

Hey jainygirl! )))HUGS((( Believe me, I definitely know what you are going through. In fact, my relaxed hair was about your length when I got my last relaxer in 1997. I have a few pics in my album of what my hair looked like in the months leading up to my decision to stop relaxing my hair. I agree with gabrielle2; please make sure that you don't make any decisions out of mere frustration. Hang in there! (:

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

I think my hair is in its shedding phase as well.

a year ago, when I was shedding excessively after using Accutane, i used Doo Gro Stimulating Growth Oil on my scalp and hair and it helped thicken my hair. i also stopped combing as much too.

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

Thank you for the Hugs Gabrielle and Maestradiva /images/graemlins/kiss.gif you all have been my voice of reason tonight for sure. I told hubby that "my online buddies from LHCF talked me off the ledge tonight" I will definitely take things slow and calm down. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Also Gabrielle, hope you get to attend the Atlanta Meeting. The Atlanta LHCF always has a great time. -- jainygirl

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

Why don't you get into roller setting and try and stay away from the blowdrying...that may also help...

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

Hey Jainygirl, /images/graemlins/kiss.gif

Oh NO!!!! /images/graemlins/shocked.gif I came as fast as I could. Why didn't you call me? Are you okay? Is everyone safe? Where's the baby? /images/graemlins/look.gif

I'm sorry to hear about your situation and I think the ladies have given you some great advice. I also know about your habit of "excessive combing" so you may want to lay low on the combing. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Also, there are many reasons why your hair may be shedding and tangly, the shedding/breaking hairs could get tangled, nutritional reasons, over/under processing of relaxer, etc. Who knows? So, before you go "cutting crazy" let's try to solve it. Also, trimming more hair may stop some of the tangles, but it may not stop the shedding and breaking

Also, what is your hair-tine again?

What do you use for protein trtmt? I think the protein suggestion may work well, since you say that you may not be getting the appropriate amount. I think the Nexxus products, like Emergencee and Keraphix are good recommendations also.

You may want to try some professional products to see how they work for you. Are you using a really good moisturizing conditioner also? Certain products make my hair dry and tangly, like cheap poos and conditioners (V05, Suave, Pantene) Cholesterol products and even some expensive clarifiers. It just may be time for a "product rotation".

Well, keep us posted on your progress and let me know if I can help.

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

If it is shedding from the root, try a garlic oil treatment. It did twice this week to slow my shedding down and it has helped.

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

Hi jainy. I'm sorry that you are going through this. I think your hair is beautiful but honestly I do think it would look better if you snipped like 2" off the ends. Your hair seems to grow fast and I think you'll have your length back in no time. I also think that roller setting is a better option to blow drying. Roller setting should give you that fullness that you're lacking - and is also less harsh than blow drying.

Good luck and I hope you find a solution /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

Hey Jainy,

I'm sorry to hear about the shedding /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Is there any style that you like that would allow you to not touch or manipulate your hair for a week or two at a time? I mean, NO manipulation other than maybe spritzing the ends with a water/oil/conditioner mix? I am a heavy shedder in general and the only way I can prevent myself from stressing too much is to do styles that do not require daily hair manipulation aka daily hair loss.

Re: I\'m so sick of my hair right about now...It\'s shedding by the hand

Hey Jainy,
Please don’t cut it! Definitely wait it out! /images/graemlins/kiss.gif

Three months ago I was going to cut my hair chin length and then transition to natural. I had a relaxer not rinsed out properly and the next thing I know I had huge see-thru gaps in my hair. I have NEVER had that much breakage and damage throughout my hair since I found the hair board and I was ready to take a long walk off a short cliff. (I put a pic of some of the breakage in my album) BUT I just increased the deep conditioning and protein treatments for three months and trimmed about a ½” when I went to get my hair permed October 10th It started to look MUCH better ! I think treatments and a professional wash n set (let them analyze your hair and tell you what they think you need) and you will be good to go. Also how much new growth you have affects your ends also. When I have a lot of new growth my hair is pushed out and up and its looks even more layered than it really is..and your ends can sometime look thinner. Its hard to explain.

Jainy, diet really does make a difference. I was a vegetarian for a long time and when I was growing my hair out I did notice a bit more shedding, but you may also have another dificiency. You may want to seek out a reputable nutriounist.

I'm really sorry for your loss /images/graemlins/kiss.gif
