I started taking Biotin about 2-3 weeks ago, and the past couple of days my face has broken out like im 15 yrs old. I'm not talking about small unnoticeable bumps, I'm talking huge, the person you're talking to might cringe bumps. Is there any alternative? If not...I may just have to cut back. I'm taking 5000 mcg and its part of my multivitamin.

Oh and FYI- I absolutely love my concoction of humctress, jojoba oil, coconut oil and WGO spary. My hair is so shiny and moisturized.

I started taking Biotin 5000mcg once a day and it's actually making my face clearer!!!

Are you drinking enough water? I drink almost a gallon of water a day.

Yep, the same thing happened with me! But it passed after a while. Since biotin promotes "healthy" skin too (from what I hear) it pushes all the impurities up to the surface-it's called purging.

It should go back to normal. I wold give it about 2 more weeks and drink MASS water!

sorry about your skin. like the other ladies said drinking plenty of water is benificial in so many ways.

OT: your humectress/jojoba/coconut/WGO concotion, do you use it as a leave in?? what are your measurements? Im looking for a 2nd leave in and I have everything except the jojoba. TIA

Hey Girl, I definitely know what you are going through. I was taking biotin recently and had these huge pimples. I know it was the biotin because this never happened with the other supplements that I take. I mean I never get pimples and these things were huge...very noticeable. I was taking biotin to thicken up my hair but because of the breakouts I had to stop taking it. I now take Pantothenic acid and drink a protein shake that contains biotin to make my hair a bit thicker and you know what I do not have the breakouts anymore. That's just another option if you don't want to continue taking the biotin.:D

I started back on biotin recently (and back on my vitamin regimem altogther) anyway my skin is actually fairing pretty well. I have been drinking a lot more water than I normally do (50 oz a day right now). I'm going to up it though to try to avoid the biotin breakouts.

Sorry this is happening to you. I would try to increase your water intake and see if that helps (try it for maybe another week or so) and if it's not changing then stop taking it.

Okay, it could very well be the water because I wasnt drinking as much as I could. My hair is thriving though. So I know its working but these pimples are huge. I'll try drinking more water for a couple of weeks and see how it works.

@Jazzy, Yes I use it as a leave-in. Sorry I don't have measurements I just pour it all in the spray bottle. I filled half the spary bottle up with humctress, added some water, and like a pop bottle cap full of each of the oils. My hair is so soft and shiny now. I've been seing a lot of progress. Let me see if I have some pictures.

I feel you! I had the same thing happen

I was taking a multi-hair vit. with 2500 mcg of biotin and was drinking lots of water and had no problems.

Went to only a biotin vitamin (no mulit) of only 1500 and my face went crazy! I had to stop. Plus, my mulit was doin just fine---don't know why I tried to switch it up

When I started taking 5000mcg of Biotin I broke out badly as well. I worked my way up from 500 mcg/day. At first I thought it was my MSM because I had double my dose around the same time, but when I ran out of Biotin and my face started clearing up I knew exactly what it was.

I reduced my dosage of both anyway (MSM was making my periods longer and irregular). Now I take a 500 mcg pill of Biotin and I get an extra 80 mcg from my multivitamin. My skin looks even better now that I'm back on Biotin and my nails are growing like crazy, but I'm going to keep it at a low dose. I'd rather have nice skin than thicker hair.

Its funny this post came up. I broke out pretty bad over the last past week. I started taking a higher doses of 10,000mgcs AND I had just so happen to start my cycle that same week, so I immediately attributed the my sudden breakout to my cycle and not to my Biotin increase. Today I'm off my cycle (yay!) and I'll continue to take 10,000mgcs just to see what really caused it.

I've been taking 1,000mcg of Biotin (not on a regular basis) but the breakouts happened when I started MSM (man listen, I was NOT happy about this so they're sitting in my cabinet!) When you start these vitamins, do you start at a low dose first, then increase the dosage? Once you increase the dosage, do the breakouts happen then or is your skin usually balanced?
