Hey ladies, i have been a member for almost 3 months now, and i'd like to say I have learned so much info from all of u who are so kind to share what u have learned. I have been inspired to take a more serious approach to the health of my hair.:yep: My issue is that i got a no lye affirm touch-up exactly 12 weeks ago. I am scheduled for a touch-up tomorrow, but reading through all the threads about lye relaxers, I have decided to switch to lye is this safe????:perplexed :look: I will be anxiously awaiting all your responses!!!!!!

Hmm....
I was confused about this as well.
Because--
I thought the PH levels in lye was very high and potentially more damaging. Although It is supposed to condition the hair better...but I'm not expert.

Hopefully someone else with more knowledge can offer better advice.

hello Naijamade
im sure you must have noticed that there is one recurring mantra here. "what works for one person, may not necessarily work for the other". Its as simple as that. If there is nothing wrong with the relaxer that you are currently using, then i would recommend sticking with wachu got. If it aint broke, dont fix it...lol

For me, i stick with no-lye simply because i have a very sensitive scalp. The scalp burns i always got from lye relaxers were no joke :nono:. So yeah, if the relaxer that ur using now is doing its job, dont go a-shopping.

Hi:hiya2:

I switched to lye without realizing and I havent seen any negative results. I base my scalp really well though. And I add oil to the relaxer.

Hey!!!!! thanks for your reply, i am just so nervous I don't want to compromise my hair's progress, but I think I will go ahead with the switch. Anyone want to change my mind with horror stories???:perplexed I have till 4pm tomorrow to change my mind

I switched from affirm no lye to lye with no problems. As a matter of fact my hair got better with each touchup and trim. As long as you are not overlapping you should be good.

Hey Naijamade, I am a long time lurker. I have been a member for a few years now and my hair has done a 180 since. I switched from no lye to lye a few years ago and my hair has thrived. But like Tada said, what works for one person won't necessarily work for everyone. Be sure to have your scalp based really well. Good luck!

we love newbies :yep:

I am not too worried about calcium deposits because my relaxer kit comes with a chelating shampoo, which i believe gets rid of calcium. If you do go with a lye, please do keep us posted :)

Congratulations naijamade79. I switched to Lye relaxers early last year myself because the no-lye relaxer was drying and thinning out my fine tresses excessively. As long as you base your scalp properly and keep up with deep conditioning your hair, you'll be fine.
