Okay...so i was all excited about transitioning right? But now i'm not sure bc the more i think about it the more i'm worried about it...like i like to wear wear my hair straightened most of the time and i've been reading threads hat make me feel like...Hmmm...i don't have to deal with that as a texlaxed head....like staying away from water bc of fear of my hair reverting b4 i want it to...i mean my hair does react to humidity but not that bad, detangling and the risk of my hair falling out as i'm transitioning...i'm going through a life transition and i'm emotionally not there right now to deal with the challenge of transitioning...although i like challenges...i'm just going through something right now.

You can always wait and transition later when you don't have so many other challenges to deal with. What was(were) the reason(s) that you wanted to go natural?

It was an easy decision for me because my skin just couldn't take relaxers anymore. After I started transitioning, I realized that I liked my natural texture better than relaxed hair.

I went through this...I'll share a little insight. I had several failure attempts lol :lachen: lets not talk about that...
But I transitioned successfully in to a natural. I was a Natural for a full year.
I was hard,and i revert back into what i knew best- Relaxing/texlax
The thing is that you have to make sacrifices and if you really want something just go for it.

I see from your situation..Go focus on your life transition right now, and come back to this challenge with clear head.
Good luck!

You lost me at texlaxed. So are you transitioning to texlax?

I don't know about other people but my hair has never done what I didn't want it to do. When I press it, it doesn't revert--although I've never been rained on with a press--until I shampoo my hair. (Anti-frizz serums seem to help me with that.)

I don't think you should transition if you're not open to enjoy natural hair with all its quirks. Also don't transition with a certain look in mind. Discovering your natural hair should be a fun journey almost as intriguing and full of surprises as being a new mom or going on an expedition. Sometimes what seems like a flop of a do you were trying out turns out to be a new discovery. You have to be open to shrinkage. I personally LOVE shrinkage coz of the illusion it gives, but also coz the hair stays off my body, and with that being the one time I have products in my hair, not having it all over my neck and face allows me to continue enjoying the clean feeling I love.

No i am currently texlaxed.

Thanx ladies for your input....ii'm just not so sure right now...but i'm not even 2 months post yet...i'm going on 6 weeks...i do have shrinkage issues being texlaxed..not as much as a natural head but i do get shrinkage when i wet my hair....it goes from almost waistlength to BSL....

I wanted to go natural bc i know its healthy for me bc i'm not putting harmful chemicals on my scalp..i wanted the ability to go from long and straight to a nice juicy afro....and i wanted to know what my hair type looked like.

I'm liking being texlaxed tho...but i would never go back to being bone strait....but like i said i'm just not so sure right now.

Your reasons are all of the reasons I want to transition, and all of the reasons why I can't either. So I know how you feel.

I could have written your post myself.

Lol!!! Well i'm glad i found someone who knows exactly how i feel...*breathing a sigh of relief*

Its hard to just be so ready to transition...all i've known is how to deal with chemically processed hair...and then life has given me lemons....tons of lemons and now i have to make lemonade, lemon slushies, lemon everything on top of transitioning challenges...i'm gonna try though.

How long do you normally stretch? Just go a bit longer than that, and if you find yourself falling in love with your natural waves/curls/kinks, that will help you make up your mind.

The decision should just come to you, and feel RIGHT. You don't have to decide anything right now.

you dont have to choose yet. you can re-evaluate once your usual stretch is over. if at that time you still feel like its not time... then it wasnt time :)

going natural is a journey and not a chore. we all want you to have fun with it and enjoy every moment rather than feel like its a burden.

 dont worry chica! you can go natural when its right for you! you have nothing to prove here!

Thank you...i just feel so bad bc i was so excited about doing it but i'm not even sure and i'm all over the place about how i'm so happy about transitioning. :(

The longest i've ever gone was 12 weeks and i got scared bc my hair started matting up so bad so i texlaxed.

Thanx Momo!! Can you be my therapist:grin:

Well whichever you may choose, you know I'm always here...on the opposite side of the screen :fan:  What if you tried a keratin treatment for a few months? Then when that wears off you can re-evaluate your new growth then and decide whether to texlax or not.

You'll know when you are completely ready. After I relaxed my 2 years of natural growth I immediately regretted it but I was not ready to give up my length. I knew I would be natural again, just not right that second. I kept my relaxed hair for all of 10 months and proposed a 9 month transition which turned into 5 months.

If you have this many questions, it's just best to wait. Plus, transitioning to natural is a big change- especially with your length. When you are going through other issues, perhaps now is not the time to make big decisions. I think you may need more time to make a final decision on your transition.

Hey Smiling E. If you know that you need to handle some stuff that is going on with you, deal with them first. Get yourself right first and then transition. You will be much better able to handle it then. Do not let your transition become the straw that broke the camel's back.

SmilingElephant, I wish you luck with whatever you decide. I'm sure many stretches have turned into transitions and many transitions turn into long stretches. Either way, you know how to take care of your hair, so it will always be lovely!

Your Hair is Beautiful! I know it will be even more beautiful when you become natural, Sometimes it takes several tries to transition or stay natural, I have done it 10 times since 2003, But Finally this year I am Happy with it! Some people can make up their mind and commit to it with no problems. Just make short term goals, that is what is helping me, short term goals.

You have enough hair to roll on through this transition! I am rooting for you!!! I think it is perfectly normal to feel that way.

I wish I had saw your post earlier. I felt this way a few weeks back ( about 11 weeks post). My hair was so badly detangled, my arms would get exhausted from combing through my head. I know what its like.

The longer I'm in transition mode the more I resolve that this is best for me. I'm not worrying about chopping my hair off at the moment. I can do that whenever. I've encounted aplenty of women who have streched from 6 months to a year. This takes alot of pressure off of me. Natural hair grows extremely fast so if I make it to a yr I'll at least be neck length ( maybe shoulder).

The money and time I could use to purchase relaxers and pay a stylist to do my hair I will use to ease my transition. Wigs and products only so I'm saving a bundle.

And one thing I do when I'm fready to pull the plug is surf the net for afro textured styles. I just love the fullness and textures and lengths. That gives me strength. I hope this helps you but if you're not ready. You're just not ready. You don't owe anyone an apology.
