I really don't know what to do with myself!!!!1

Dont' know if I should say this but I just came from nappturality and I think I just found mynew home!!!!

I decided that it s better for me to texturize my hair. I just cannot deal with the thickness. No, its not the healthiest state of my hair but my hair is growing and looking shiny and healthy thanks to no poo, olive oil, protective styling and a simple routine.

So now I don;t really belong on nappturality anymore. Doesn make sense because any form of chemical alteration is forbidden (except of course coloring but that does not count ;) :ohwell: :perplexed )
Anyway, I thought Nappturality was the only site out there like it, but this one is 10 times better and more suited to me.

Ahhh. Home at last and I can still talk about natural styling which I can still do. Most people assume I am natural but I tell them I put a texturizer in.

This site seems so big! Where should a newbie go?

Thanks! I'm very interested in the growout challenge but I dont know where to start. My hair is too short in the front to do a traditional protective style so I don't know what to do. And how should I develop a routine? Any suggestions? Or maybe I have one already and dont know it. For now since I can't really put my hair "up" I consistently apply olive oil to the ends 3 times a day and wrap my hair in a satin scarf.

Count me in!!

We would love to have you on the challenge. I know that it can be challenging starting off with shorter hair. I had shorter hair in the beginning too.

It's not for everyone but I wore braids until I had enough hair to put in a small ponytail and then I wore phonybuns and phonytails until I had a little more hair to work with.

The key is to remain patient and be consistent with whatever you do for your hair. Your hair will reward you by become very healthy and vibrant.

Check out my album. You can see my journey from May 2003 to now. My hair is past my shoulders now and I am on my way to bralength.

Good Luck to you and head on over to the Super Grow Out thread and sign up there!!

Hello and Welcome
Sounds like you have the makings of a routine already. I'm in the same boat as you are with protective styles and I find braids and wigs work great for me.

Isnt this forum just the greatest. If you are just starting out find out your hair type, find a hair mentor, someone who has hair like yourself and develop a hair routine and find the products that work for you. I know when I was a newbie I brought so many things that I didnt need and become a product junkie (which isn't a bad thing sometimes). A year later I have develop a hair routine and a hair "grocery" list that I go by when I run out of my hair staples. HTH. Take care

Hi KathyMay,

I'm glad you like it here. I enjoyed meeting you. I'm braided now too and I look to you guys to help me with my regimen.

 HI GIRL HI..WELCOME! I JUST JOINED THIS SITE A LITTLE OVER A MONTH NOW AND ALREADY MY HAIR LOVES ME FOR THE NEW KNOWLEDGE I GAINED FROM THIS SITE. HAPPY GROWING.

Hello, I'm also new so I know how ya feel. It can be overwhelming at times but this will be such a fun and exciting journey for you and your hair! When you start seeing results, it will be great! I first started taking better care of my hair a little under a year ago, and my biggest challenge was developing a consistent routine. Finally, all these months later, I can now say I have a routine that I will stick to for the time being. I bought a lot of products at first, but now I have slowed down with that. My biggest suggestion next to finding someone who has hair like yours/a mentor, would be to send away for samples of hair care products so that you can try out the trial sizes and see how your hair likes them before purchasing them full price. Or, if you don't want to wait for that, try to buy your products from places that will let you return and/or exchange them if you don't like your results (Sally's is one, but they don't have as huge of a selection). Good luck!

Hi!
Thank you all for the warm welcome!

I saw everyone posting their vitals so let me better introduce myself

:newbie:
Hair type: 3b , 3c
Using a mild texturizer for now (7min max) but I don't put any chenicals on my crown (where most of my 3b hair is)
Products:
Olive oil (extra light only!!!)
Conditioners: Dove, Garnier Fructis, Paul Mitchell (when I'm rich)
Shampoo: Herbal Essence Triple Conditioning Systeme, and Paul Mitchell Moisture Rich
Hair length now:  back maybe 3inches, sides/front 2inches, middle of my head:2 inches
Hair goal:I want to add 1 inch all over by the end of Feb. By August (graduation) My hair should be at least shoulder length (6 or 7 inches?)

WELCOME :newbie:

i joined nappturality back in May and only been their a few times. I really do not like that site. I get more tips on transitioning and what it's like to be natural here on the LHCF! Glad you could join here to share your questions, experiences, advice, & goals!

WELCOME, I'm an "old head" on here and I still get excited when I log on :D

It sounds like you have a pretty good regime already, just be consistent and nurture and protect your hair. :) There are a good number of texturized gals on the site that can help you as well as all the natural and relaxed girls! ;)
