and giving thanks.

I relaxed tonight - a little soon after taking the braids out, but I could not stand the brillo pad on my head, and I'm going to the theatre tomorrow - must be looking good.

Arcadian - I cannot thank you enough for the heads up on using the acv rinse. Two washes and I had white suds. I was so shocked, I washed again just in case my eyes were playing tricks on me. Never ever have I gotten to white suds so fast - thank you, thank you.

Sareca and Honeydew - using the silk and other proteins is a stroke of genius. My hair is strong, strong, strong, but still very soft. I am so very pleased with the results. Thank you, thank you.

To the person who uses mayo - you are brilliant. I made a concoction of mayo, egg, and the proteins - this is so great. Thank you thank you.

To Gymfreak and others who suggested using the protein after rinsing and before washing - holy cow - this works so well, especially with my very cool blend. Thank you, thank you.

To all the Porosity Control users and pushers - wow - this is great. After the rinse, acv, rinse, protein, rinse, neutralize, protein, I used this before the moisturizing conditioner - it worked even better than it has in the past.

To my supportive big sister Tanya - thanks multiple times.

I hope I have not fogotten anyone - ladies - those named and those not - you are simply, simply the best. I'm sure my ceramides will come tomorrow and I'll start using them in the future, I just could not wait another day.

Thank, you, thank, you, thank you all.

You're welcome! :DThis site is all about helping each other out. I think we'd be remiss if we didn't share.

You are so welcome. But, I can't take the credit. The ladies here have always stressed the importance of protein to me.

My search for my own concoctions and cheaper, less drying methods is what got me googling for hydrolyzed proteins.

They are good, though, aren't they? I just order a big bottle of marine protein last week because I am down to my last little bit!

And Eiano, thank you for being such a hot sexxxy mamma who knows how to work it.

Oh don't mention it gurl!!! You know it's how I do!

The sharing is really one of the best things about the boards. And many heads all working together toward the same goal can mean success for all. I am really grateful I found you all. I wish I had a camera to take pictures - after the roller set, my hair is simply beautiful. This has been the best relaxer experience ever.

GF - you are really going to have to check out the marine protein - it is great stuff. i mixed mine with a variety of others - silk peptide powder, silk amino acids, hydrolyzed wheat protein, cotton seed protein, and panthenol - my hair has never been softer and not one broken hair have I seen. It is amazing!

Oh! I wanna name names!

VWVixxen for henna, eqyss, protein in relaxers. What can I say... I got much love for ya.

Supergirl for starting me thinking about proteins. When read her thread it didn't click right away, but now that I "get it" her thread was on point!

HoneyDew for telling me about marine collagen. I've added it to my red palm concoction. I loved it that much.

Letita for showing me where my hair "could" go.

All the people that encouraged (or nagged) me to start selling the hair cream. :wink2:

delp for the ceramides thread. I've been adding wheat germ oil to my hair oil concoctions ever since.

There are others, but my DH is giving me the evil eye so I'll be back when I have a sec.

ETA: Thanks newflowers :)

Hey Flowers. Congrats on a great relaxer! I have a question for you and others about the bolded section above. I always thought that you ABSOLUTELY had to neutralize after you rinsed the relaxer or else your hair would fall out. So you guys are saying that its ok to relax rinse, protein (for how long ?), deep condition THEN neutralize? Whats the time frame from rinsing the relaxer until you neutralize that you are still safe? Does it matter if you use lye or no-Lye (i.e. does one type allow you to go longer before neutralizing) I know that when I use a protein treatment its in for at least a half hour and if I deep condition, its in (with no heat) for at least a half hour also. Ive used no-lye in the past but will be switching to a lye relaxer in three weeks.

I just keep picturing that episode of Martin where they are in ShaNay-Nay's salon and Gina (I think) relaxes that lady hair and forget to put neutralize it and she ends up bald...

If you look carefully at most relaxers, especially the lye ones, the instructions say to put on conditioner for 10 minutes before relaxing. Remember, just the rinsing process starts the neutralizing process. Conditioners are also acidic so they help keep the neutralizing process going.

When I did this, I used Index II this time - wow - that one is strong and fast. Two days before, I clarified and deep conditioned with Motins CPR as advised by my big sis. My hair is perfectly straight, and I took 8 minutes to put it in and 13 to smooth. Those are the exact times because I was using another thread about relaxing and keeping track of the time while doing so.

After that, I rinsed the relaxer for about 3 minutes to make sure it was really out. Next, I poured the container of avc over my head and waited about 1 minute, and then I plotted with the towel, put the protein mixture in for 3 minutes, rinsed, and neutralized three times, and clarified one time. Next, I put the second half of the protein mix in for 30 minutes with a cap. After that, I rinsed again and put in the deep moisturizing conditioner and tada.
