Hi all,

I really don't understand my hair ! I've been on this forum for a while now but did not benefit from it......
I managed to grow my hair even and cut it in April 2009 to have a good start but it seems that my hair did not grow of an inch since then I swear !!
Last night I took out some cornrows that I kept for a week only and decided to pre-poo overnight (castor, olive and coconut oils) before my shampoo this morning and I lost soooooooooo much hair.
My hair was already detangled yesterday, I could gently comb it as I put my oil mixture on it so I don't get it :whyme:
I think that my hair just don't like being relaxed so I'll just transition a bit with braids and cut the relaxed ends progressively as I remove them every 2 months.....

Sorry for this long post, just needed to talk I guess ;-)

I'm so sorry that that's happening to you :ohwell:. But take care in the fact that there will be plenty of setbacks, as well as victories. This is just a bump in the road that you WILL overcome. So now that you've narrowed it down to the relaxer being apart of the problem, you can start on a good path for the health of your hair. I wish I could give you more information about the pre-poo thing. I don't really know how, nor have I tried, but maybe that could have been apart of it? Either way, keep thinking positive and stay true to your hair's needs! ;)

Thanks for the replies
I did my last protein treatment 10 days ago with ORS hair mayonnaise as I knew I would cornrow my hair
When I wet my hair this morning it was not weak at all so I did a moisturizing conditioner (keracare moisturing conditioner dry and itchy scalp), but my hair shed like crazy
I did not know that prepooing could cause a setback, I am so disappointed

I sorry to hear about your problem  ..but are you sure you're experiencing shedding (white bulbs on the end)? If you kept your cornrows in for a week and the normal shedding rate is 50-100 hairs per day, maybe its not a setback? Maybe garlic would help? I hear it's good for shedding...I'm sure others will respond...

Some things that seem to work for just about every hair type.

Detangle hair with your fingers

Seamless combs: ebonite (hard rubber) rake comb for combing when wet and drenched with conditioner and Bakelite seamless bone comb for when dry and well moisturized.

After you wash your hair gently squeeze out excess water and don't rub hair with towel but squeeze and dab until hair is damp.

Use a good leave-in conditioner after each wash.

No direct heat ( flat irons, curling irons, blow dryer): either roller set and sit under a hooded dryer or air dry.

Satin scarf and pillow case.

'Baggy'ing

Watch your diet drink lots of water, fruits, veggies good multivitamin, protein
cut down on deep fried and junk foods.

Be patient and consistent -When you find products that work for your hair stick with them ( not every new tip/product/concoction is to be followed or will necessarily work for your hair ).

All the best... don't give up long hair can be yours.

I'm sorry about your hair. What is your regimen like? Can you list the products you use on a regular basis. I see you said you ORS mayo as you protein treatment, it is usually seen as a medium protein and sometimes you need a hardcore protein like Aphogee to combat breakage.

Also how often do you clarify? Maybe your products aren't been absorbed because of buildup. I hope you feel better about your hair. Also, your diet has a lot of say in what happens to your hair. (((((HUGS)))))

I really need to see your normal regimen but ORS Mayo may not be for you. For some it makes their hair really dry. Also, how long did you leave it on. I also want a detail list of the products you use in your regimen.

I think your hair is being over-processed. Over-processed hair breaks off so it looks like your hair isn't growing, when it actually is.

Also, some people just can't do the relaxers. There are many people on this forum whose hair has thrived after they ceased relaxing.

Aww, im sorry you lost a lot of hair after the cornrows. Are you sure it wasnt just accumulated hair from the week that was balled up and looked like more than it really was?

Agreeing with others to try a protein treatment first, before doing anything drastic.

Also, check out my healthy hair article, and make that will shine some light too.

Good luck!!! ((hugs))

BIIIIG HUUUUGGGG

Girl, let it out. It's okay.

Maybe your hair didn't like your preepoo ingredients?

Maybe it really is the relaxer. I agree with others on the protein.

Maybe you should bun or do some other low mani styles while you transition so you can retain some more length?
