I am in the middle of transitioning. My last relaxer was in April sometime. I think my hair type is 4a/4b. Ok my question. When I wash my hair, it always looks like a big puff ball when I am done. I am wondering how do I get my curls to be more defined. I see all these ladies with such wavy/curly hair. What am I not doing???

LOL.

Hmm...some of the natural ladies like Curly Butter (I think it was Miss Jessie's?).

I've also heard some ladies say they like the Garnier Fructis Soft Curl Cream.

when I stretch the only thing that tones my puffyness down is just doing rollersets.. I use spray leave-ins and a little oil and sit under the dryer. The heat from the dome dryer straightens my new growth. After dry.. I put creme moisturizer(ORS) and seal with little oil (EVOO and/or sweet almond oil) then I just finger comb the curls.. shake and go !!

ETA: oh your post says u r transitioning to natural....but when stretching my relaxers this is how I tame my new growth too !! hth :)

do you use any leavein?
how are you drying your hair/
how are you detangling?

I don't currently use a leave in.
I use a gold 'n hot hand blow dryer. My hair gets straight when I use that but it seems like everyone's hair on here is wavy or curly when wet. Is there something that I need to be applying to my hair?
I do use a conditioning detangler. I can't think of the name of it right now. I got it from my local BSS.

Any recommendations?

By the way, I love your hair, silvergirl.

Do you mean that you want to wear your hair curly? You may not be able to successfully wear it curly if you still have relaxed ends. Does your hair (natural hair) curl up when wet at all? When I was natural, I just applied some Proclaim Curl Activator Gel when I wanted to wear it in a curly fro.

You should be able to tell from your new growth. If you're relaxed bone straight, the relaxed hair more than likely isn't going to curl. The majority of the ladies here who are wearing wet curly/wavy hair either have that texture or they are not relaxed 100% (texlaxed) which leaves some of the natural curl pattern in the hair. Try some Fantasia gel with sparkelites to see if your new growth curls. Or a good leave in conditioner. If that doesn't work, your hair just may not have a curl pattern. You might need to do a twist out or something to acheive that look.
