I'm frustrated with myself/hair....

So I found LHCF by some miracle in 2003 I believe. Since then I've been an on again off again member. There will be a few months where I'll be on LHCF intensely and then for a few months I'll rarely check it, no fault of LHCF, just my own laziness.

I've learned A TON, since joining this sight. My biggest problem I think is that I don't stick to a particular regimen or I haven't found a regimen that really really boosts my length. I've tried so many different things, from surging to hf37 to drinking a gallon of water each day to cowashing to braiding, to weaving, to getting my hair washed and set each week at a dominican place, I could go on and on.

The state of my hair now is that it is still that coarse but thin 4a/b texture, I have it relaxed. It's brushing my shoulders but not really resting on it. It thins out at the ends not really sure how to get my ends to be as thick as the roots. I am currently 8 weeks post relaxer, I hope to get to 11 weeks this stretch (which is the longest for me without braids). I use a Chi Flat Iron to straighten the roots and smooth out the texture after washing my hair. I'm trying to wear a simple protective style, even if it's not cute as much as possible.

To top this off the other day I was having a discussion about good hair/bad hair with my cousin and best friend. The two of them have shoulder blade length relaxed healthy hair. Their texture is between 3a-3c. They think I'm crazy for being on LHCF. They think that some people's hair have a good grade of hair and some people have a bad grade of hair and those with the bad will never grow as long as those with the good. I then asked my best friend if she thought her hair was better than mine, she looked away from me and wouldn't answer so I asked her again and she said yes. She said after all the things you do to your hair and all the things you know about hair, it still never gets long, it's just not meant to be long.

Sorry to be a party pooper but I'm just feeling really frustrated about not finding a real rhythm to stick to for my hair and starting to wonder if they are right....:(

Awww... Rabia..I'm sorry girlie. I feel you. I'm feeling a bit discouraged today too (I just posted a thread: "You don't look like you have a relaxer").

What your cousins said about "good hair vs. bad hair" is a myth shared by many people unfortunately. I don't think there is such a thing as "good hair" or "bad hair". I think EVERYONE's hair (regardless of race, texture, ethnicity, color, etc) was born with "good hair" and that everyone can IMPROVE their hair by taking really good care of it.

Now, whether or not everyone can grow butt-length hair is another question. I don't see why not. But, maybe some people just have a natural "cut-off" length.

I think your hair can and WILL grow longer. Just keep doing what you've been doing as far as your hair regimen. Try maybe sticking to one thing and seeing how that goes for a while. If that doesn't work, then maybe try something else.

But don't give up...

Thanks Crystal,

I never believed those myths my mother had always instilled that no one had bad hair. However I don't know how to respond to people who have a softer texture than mine and whose hair easily grows past their shoulders when with all my knowledge my hair is struggling to rest on my shoulders and is thin.

I really need to find a regimen and stick too it. I'd love to do a bun/baggie with drawstring ponytail, i just hate how fake most of them look. Ya know??

awwwwwwwwww big hug. maybe you are doing too much to your hair? are you willing to do a braid regimine for like a year? maybe no heat for a year?

what seems to be your stumbling block is it breakage?
maybe your hair needs a milder relaxer?
not sure but i feel your pain, sometimes i feel like my hair is at a stand still and i do something radical like texturize then i wonder was it worth it

Hey rabiaelaine!

I am having the feel for myslef blues also! I too go insanely crazy with LHCF and drop off for a few months like now. My last album update was August and since then I have had a touch-up and some progress. It just seems like everyone is doing great and their growth so fast.....I wonder if most of the members are still using MTG? I stopped that also...man I"m lazy!

Well girl we need to jump back on that horse so can have long thick lustrous hair and stop being so lazy. A big inspiration would be JenniferMD! Check out her album and look at her starting point...I'm in if your in girl! :O)

I think maybe the winter time brings out these "hair-blues". :( Not only is it more depressing around winter time in general, but usually it's colder, and people tend to get dry EVERYTHING in the winter! Dry skin, dry hair, dry lips, you name it.

I think our hair just needs that EXTRA tender loving care in the winter you know?? Because it's so easy to feel discouraged and feel like giving up.

I feel your pain I also struggle with thin ends but after becoming a member of LHCF I have learned alot. Mainly to keep my ends moist and protected, different strokes for different folks I guess I never grew hair to my shoulders but I tried a sew in weave for 3 months and my hair is now past my shoulders. I will post pics as soon as I get another digital camera. If I can do so can you. Don't give up consistency is the key. As a matter of fact I think I am going to get me another sew in for the winter. Good luck and keep your head up.

Thanks ladies....

I guess a big portion of my failure is not being consistent.

I need to stay away from heat more too i suppose...

And after looking at Crystals post about someone saying that it didn't look like she had a relaxer....I need to become ok with not looking "Done" all of the time.

That it's okay if I pull my hair back in a protective bun and expose my forehead :).

To answer Ms Portugal,

I do have a problem with breakage at the ends, little 1/2 inch pieces of hair breaking here and there, adds up to my thin ends.

Funny thing is when I just saw one of my girlfriends last night and I haven't seen her in maybe a month, and she went on and on about how my hair is getting longer, but I don't see it. I just want my hair to be past my shoulders for once in it's life....

The bolded is exactly why i don't tell anyone about my hair goals. Many women are very ignorant about black hair and they are discourgaing. reading this post motivates me even more to grow my hair long because my friends have said I have that n**** hair:rolleyes:

I know this is an old thread but I was doing a search and it came up so i decided to read it. Rabia, your hair grown a lot from then and now. How have your friends reacted to your hair growth? Do they still think "bad hair" can't grow?

Awww RabiaElaine! Have you been baggying? Baggying could be the culprit. Might be too much for you.

Also I purchased a UPA months ago and never wore it. One day I decided to wear it. First I took it to my hair stylist so he could cut it down and thin it out for me to make it look more like my density AND GIRL have I have been getting compliments galore and the cool thing about it is that it does NOT hurt my hair.

I have thin/fine hair and the only thing I have to be careful with is to get the interchangeable barrettes that are not to big and heavy. Try a UPA instead of a drawstring ponytail. I got the wet and wavy human hair one (H03).

Hey RabiaElaine,

Can you update us on your progress? When I met you in July, it seems like you now have your regimen under control. I am curious as to if you still feel this way.

Thanks!

How have they reacted?? Well one of them lurks on here now and again for hair advice now. The other comes to me for her trims and listens to my advice to not let the dominicans blow her hair out and to not let them trim her hair.

Yes I still have my regimen under control which consists of:
-Hiding my hair 99% of the time
-My vitamins (I've been consistent for almost 3 months and noticing the difference)
-Being gentle
-And general good hair practices (all of which I learned on this board)

I am in the same place you where and we have the same texture Please take a look at my latest pictures. I can't keep going to the salon so I try to do my own hair. What vitamins do you use and are there any products and /or methods that you swear by?

Hi! I think you are making great progress.

I think everyone has to find which products work for them. I love Cream of Nature Ultra Moisturizing Shampoo. I love Nexxus Humectruss, and Keracare Humecto, and Kenra Ultra Moisturizing conditioners. I love Neautragena Triple Moisture leave in. I use BRX braid spray when I have in a weave.

In terms of methods, PROTECTIVE STYLING is key for me! That's the only way I would have been able to retain the length that I have. Once I started weaving my hair growth took off!!! And right now, there's no stopping it!! That is the number one recommendation I can make protective styling and being super gentle with your hair.

Also if you are relaxed, stretching relaxers really helps to prevent overlapping which causes breakage.

HTH

I got through this like ever quarter.

I just try and stay consistent, and that helps alot, I cut down on heat, manipulation and co wash pretty often and I feel alot better about my hair.

Now if I had your weaving skills, Id be weaved up for the winter...
