I'm considering using boxed hair dye..

both my mother and i are natural. she dyes her hair this copper-looking color, but she keeps her hair in a teeny tiny twa, so she claims that her hair doesn't get damaged. i, on the other hand, want to grow mine out.. but i'm getting a little bored with it. i was thinking of dying my hair a bronze color but i'm scared that my hair might get damaged and i'd hate to have to suffer a major setback.. any suggestions? should i or shouldn't i?

tia!

Are you willing, if need be, to lose all of the length you have now? That's my criteria for doing dye, because you might end up having to gradually cut it all off.

Your mom doesn't get damage because she keeps her hair so short, she's cutting it all off - or it's breaking off naturally, if she doesn't get regular trims.

And Bronze? Would you have to lift your hair? If so, ask yourself that question REAL seriously - esp. if you don't know how your hair reacts to dye over the long term.

yeah that's what i was thinking.. my mom told me to ask the ladies over here what they thought because i was thinking it would probably be a bad idea.. i've used permanent dye before but it was always some dark color on already-damaged relaxed hair so it didn't really matter to me.

I use them every 2-3 months but I don't lift the color.
I do semi-permanent (no peroxide, no ammonia). Just
did one yesterday.

I don't lift because my hair is already processed (texlaxed).
If it wasn't I wouldn't think a thing about lifting the color.

The only thing I would try is Clairol luminizer. I'm intrigued with the stuff, I have a bottle, but have not used it, and don't know if I ever will.

There is a member here that uses it regularly and her hair looks very healthy.

I'm scared of commercial hair colors in general. I'm a henna girl.

There's alot of people on this board who dye their hair with box dyes. Maybe some of them will give you their experiences. I would say if you do, texture and tones seems to be gentle on hair( I used it when I was relaxed).
