Hello Ladies!

I hope everyone's had a great summer! :yep: I've been away for a while and very busy, but I wanted to stop by and give a little update on the hair front! My 2 year anniversary was July 15th, and I'm happy to say that my hair is growing out nicely, and I've finally gotten used to wearing it down and not being self conscious, which is a huge milestone for me! I also resisted the urge for summer highlights, b/c I just want to get used to my hair the way it is before I start experimenting. But next summer it's gonna be on! :sekret: And as far as products, I've learned that less is more, like most naturals do after a year or so. I still CO wash w/ Pantene every day, and if I don't do a shake and go (like in the pics) then it's back in my phony pony. I still use Mango Butter and Ampro Clear Ice to slick it back, and I use this new product by Lustrasilk called Extreme Curling Gel (purple bottle, WalMart) for my shake and goes. Anyway, the album is called "Year 2 Update" so feel free to take a peek!

P.S. For those new naturals and anyone transitioning, the beginning is always the hardest, but hand in there, you really will fall in love with your hair! :yep:

Congratulations on your two year mark! Your hair is beautiful...I love the shake and go look. :)

Thanks for all the encouragement ladies! I really miss being on the board. Everyone here has been such an inspiration for me to stay on my natural journey, and I'm so happy that I am now beginning to enjoy wearing my hair in different natural styles like puffs and shake and goes, when I used to be so self conscious. Thanks again ladies!

Beautiful, how did you do use the jheri curl hair to do the phonytail? it is like the reg phonypony where you can baggie your hair underneath?

Lucia, that ponytail is actually weaving hair wrapped and pinned around my own ponytail. I just take a long piece, and start wapping it around and pinning it with hair pins until it forms a pony. It takes longer than a clip on pony or a drawstring, but I wear my ponies low, and I find that it's more realistic looking. I've never actually done the baggie method myself, but I would think that you need an actual drawstring pony to go over the baggie.

OKAY YOUR HAIR IS GORGEOUS! WHAT IS YOUR SECRET TO GET IT GROWING SO LONG SO QUICKLY? DIDN'T YOU JUST HAVE A BC A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO? YOU GO GIRL!;)

 Alli, trust me, it's not growing that fast! I chopped last December, but it was after almost 18 months of transitioning, so I didn't really start from scratch. It's funny that you say it grew out quickly, b/c to me it seems like it took YEARS! Anyways, the main trick to maintaining length for me has been protective styling and no heat. I haven't even trimmed it since I chopped off the relaxed ends, but I'm going to straighten it soon and trim the ends. :yep:
