Ok. So I'm starting to feel like a rebel around these parts. I dont wash in sections,I dont DC, I havent protective styled since I was transistioning, and I always wear WnGs. I continue to see growth and I cant say that I really ever see any splits in my hair (even though I know some have to be there). I know my hair cant be made out of some type of thread sent from the gods. So I must know, is all of this extra stuff really necessary? Do we HAVE to protective style and do we HAVE to do all this extra stuff to see some length?

I'm amazingly lazy with my hair. I have the simplest reggie ever and I've gone from this:

to this:

within the past year. And I'm aiming for BSL this year still using the same reggie.

loool congrats on your regime working for you:grin:

I dont protective style or wash in sections either i am fine without its just a matter of finding what works for you

I have noticed alot of people may appear to do alot to their hair but its really out of enjoyment rather than a NEED hair is fun to them

I loove skincare some may think my routine is extra and all i need is cetaphil but I enjoy it let me live:lol:

When I was natural, I did very little to my hair and it grew thick and long. However, I think a relaxed head has to do extra just because the chemicals start us off with a strike which is weakened strands.

Maybe thats why I feel so overwhelmed coming onto this site sometimes. Sometimes I feel like my hair care is so inadequate compared to others.

So what is your regimen?

charmtreese

Shampoo with sulfate free shampoo when needed
Co-wash about every 3 days (finger detangle under showerhead)
Use Aloe Vera rinses after i co-wash (just started this recently)
Use a creamy moisturizing leave-in
Seal with castor oil

After I apply product I put my hair in two VERY lose pony tails to stretch my hair a little. Then once its about 70-80% dry i shake my head to remove the part. Then I just go about my day. In between co-washes I pineapple at night . Spritz in the morning with liquid aloe vera/ rosewater/ glycerin mix. ShakeNgo.

I think the extra steps are necessary for some people. You just have to know your hair. Anything I do to my hair is out of neccessity, I don't enjoy spending excessive amounts of time on my hair; I'm actually always looking for shortcuts to take. However, its just not always possible for me and I have to take those extra measures in some cases to retain length.

I look at hair just like weight loss. Some people can eat what they want, barely or never exercise and have amazing bodies. Some have to work at it. Same with skincare. Some folks just wash their face with cheap drugstore washes and skin looks clear and amazing; others like myself have a lifelong battle with acne and have to work hard to get nice looking skin.

Great progress :yep:.

I'm stealing this. My shrinkage is redamndiculous. I will try it this weekend to see if I like it.

I don't know if i'm a rebel:look:

BUT.

I don't protective style either and i've been slacking on my DC's lately. I always wear WnG's and sometimes they become WnG puffs or buns on top of my head...and i just started doing my hair in 2 sections...i have to do things with ease and i'm glad my hair allows for that to happen!

It's been growing just fine too.:yep:

But i do feel some people do have to do more to avoid chaos upon their heads and that's okay too:)

Congratulations on your progress.

The answer is WE don't but I do. I don't have WNG hair. It would just turn into a fro. If I don't wash in sections, then my hair shrinks up so much that I can't do anything with it. And since I don't like wearing a fro most days, protective styles work for me.

Im with Imani, I'm only doing what is necessary for my hair. I don't do extra. If I could put it in 1 braid and leave it I probably would.

At the bolded, i've been feeling like this too, lately. My regimen has become stupid simple...and then i see other ladies that make spritzes and teas and things for their hair...and i wonder if i should be doing that too.

But i like how pretty much everybody is doing what works for them. Remembering that makes me not feel so bad:grin:

Yeah, I'm lazy with my hair and don't do much either. I've gotten lazier the longer my hair has gotten. When people ask me what my regimen is and what products I use I feel like such a disappointment coz I barely do anything. I'm literally just like, "I use conditioner and gel." And they're like, ":look:" lol.

Here's what I do:

-co wash, rinse out condish, then apply ecostyler gel (or another styler, for example, Hair Rules Curly Whip) to my hair for curl definition. I will leave my hair in this wash and go style for about a week then repeat the process.

-I don't use any leave-ins or moisturisers or oils, just gel (or whatever styler I am using). Once in a while I will put oil under the gel, or I will leave a bit of conditioner in my hair under the gel, but mostly it's just gel.

-During the week, if my wash and go gets too frizzy I will wet the top part of my hair and add a bit more gel to it and slick my hair back into a bun or ponytail. If I don't wanna do that I just throw on a hat. lol.

-I shampoo with whatever shampoo I have in my house when I feel like I have product build up. This is usually around every two weeks. I'm terrible at deep conditioning, often going months without doing it, but I try to do it at least once a month. I do a protein treatment every few months or if I feel like my hair needs it.

-I've never protective styled. If I'm doing a bun it's just for a change of style. I wash and go about 90% of the time.

I wash in braids because I lose less hair and detangle more easily. I have to DC because my hair is color treated and will dry out quick if I don't. I do WnGs all the time and gained a lot of growth. It's the easiest style for me to do and it's low manipulation.

Congrats on all your growth!

This...but congrats on finding something simple that works for you =)

At this point if I had/did baby my hair the way some ppl do I would be at BSL.

But honestly I cant be bothered. Like Noniesays eventually you will get there.

Till then I'm going to comb to my hearts content, sleep on cotton pillowcases, use heat, flirt with heat damage, bleach, colour do watever.

Life is too short and hair grows back.

I think you have to do what works for you and it seems it's working. If it stops...well then you'll have to rethink...otherwise you maybe cowashing and non protective styling all the way to tailbone for all I know. I think it's great that it works for you.

I've been feeling the same way recently. Ever since I started using cleansing conditioners, my regimen has slimmed down dramatically. I keep my hair braided up when I'm at home, but only to keep my boys and Dh outta my hair...otherwise they just want to play in it. I don't wash in sections, and it's not crazy hard to detangle either, unless im using a new product that just doesn't work for my hair. When I'm out, my hair is out, and WnG's are my Life right now. Love em!

I'm all about the path of least resistance.
