Okay, I've unfortunately joined the ranks of the setback city. :wallbash:
I guess winter in California was rougher on my hair than I thought. Combined with four months of general neglect, a lot of wash n goes, and little to no ps, when I went to my beautician Friday, I had to have 1/2-1" cut. I trust my beautician and she's really into healthy hair care, so I know she wasn't scissor happy. I'm so mad at myself right now.:burnup:
With my wedding only a month away, I wanted to get to bsl by then and I was grazing it. Now I'm going to step up my game. She advised me to get some flax seed oil (to be taken internally), no self administered heat, more water, and Sebastian 2+1 conditioner. She's optimistic that I can get pretty close to my goal if I ps to boot. So I'm saying good bye to my hair (going bunning) for the next five weeks. Wish me luck!

Below, you'll find pictures from February and today after my cut.

By the way a major cause of my set back was Elasta QP Mango/Olive Oil mositurizer. My hair hates it b/c there's a high alcohol content according to my beautician. My hair was dry, dry, dry from using that and doing twistouts! :cry4:

Wait - how was this a setback? It sounds like it was just a trim. Either way, I'm sorry to hear that you are unhappy. Your hair looks great, and I'm sure it'll be beautiful at your wedding. Congrats.

Aww it looks nice! sorry you're upset about the trim...sometimes I feel that way when it comes to my hair as well...but you're hair is much longer than mine:yep:

At the end of the day, the overall health of your hair is so much more important than the length of it..this is just my opinion.

And hey, at least you pinpointed exactly what was causing you're dryness issue, sometimes it takes way more than a 1in trim to figure that out:nono:.

Congrats on the wedding and your hair looks good girl!!

Okay, I feel kinda dumb now. I am just not used to needing that much hair cut off. I've been doing this for a year and two months now and I only went to my beautician twice last year, both times she said my hair was in good condition and that i only needed a dusting. Well this time I could see her working with my hair in the mirror and trying not to shake her head. She admitted that she was disappointed because she knows I usually take really good care of my hair. I felt a little embarrassed too.
Thank you all so much for saying that you liked my hair. I feel MUCH better now. I'll just step up my game though so that she won't have to take off so much next time. I am glad that I caught it early though. I knew something was off with my hair earlier this month and made an appt as soon as I could (she never books you in less than a week). I do, however notice little broken hairs dispersed through out my hair and I lose A LOT of hair on a daily basis, so I do know something's off, but I don't know what at this point. I'd just come to the point where I just thought it was normal for me to lose so much hair. She says I have a lot of hair but it's deceptively fine. She cautioned me not to use too much heat and be very gentle with it.
Is there a way to thicken up my strands?

Your hair looks great. I couldn't stop staring at it at the meetup lol. I have heard of people using henna to strengthen their strands. I'm sure you will reach your hair soon. When you bun make sure not to make your buns too tightly and change the position of your buns every now and then to avoid putting stress in the same area.

Your hair looks great and now that you have figured out the cause of the problem you are definately on the path to reaching your goal.

I am new to LA and have difficulty finding a stylist who is into healthy hair care. Seems like everyone here only does press and curls or weaves. Please can you give me the name and number for your stylist.

what angiet??? your hair looks fricken awesome!!!! looks better than the first pic acturally and honestly....

pop a few sea kelp vitamins, i heard they realllly speed up hair growth like crazy... i have tried but got to lazy to take them lol.

Thanks ladies. I appreciate the support and compliments.
Loca, you're such a sweetie. I'm so glad we met.

aww I'm sorry about that, I too have had to pay the price for neglect which is no progress!!!! congrats on your wedding! I wish you all the best!

BTW it sounds like you have a really good hairdresser helping you care for your hair :) You're a lucky one!

i think your hair still looks great.:grin::grin: it just looks like you got a trim. and the ends are fuller & thicker in the 2nd pic. and it looks looks your layers grew longer, so you made progress there too.

Yeah thanks. I found her about two years ago and wore a weave for that first year. She's really the only other person besides myself I trust in my hair. I'm fortuante to have her

Set back?? Where?? Your hair looks GREAT!! CONGRATS ON THE WEDDING!!!

Thanks for the congrats. I'm starting to feel like an attention hog now, but I was really truly upset when she told me she had to cut this time and to see the disappointed knit in her eyebrows, I felt like I let her down. Sometimes I think she has just as much vested interest in my hair growth and health as me. And she never pressures me to keep coming back to her. She's totally mellow and the shop is too.

Your hair is so beautiful! Have you picked out your wedding day hairstyle yet?

Yeah, we decide that she will make me some resuable human hair clips (she gets the best hair, it's costly, but people think it's dead on my hair) and I'll wear a half up half down with some "babies breaths" (not sure what they're called) or small flowers and curls. I'm really excited and can't wait to see them!

Honestly I couldn't tell the difference between the before and after. Girl stop having hair-rexia!

I'm guilty! I have SERIOUS hair-rexia! I swear I think my hair is sl sometimes. People tell me it's a nice length (not quite long yet), but I want to feel it swishing against my mid/lower back YESTERDAY! AND I want thick hair like Mwedzi and Adora! I'll just keep at it. My greatest fear is that I'll finally get to my goal length and have thin, see through hair, not at the ends, but all the way down!

Thanks again everyone for the positive feedback though :wavey:
