I\'m a little peeved, need direction...

Okay, I'm a little peeved.

I was suppose to get my hair done this weekend. I'm at 13 weeks - I NEED a touch up. I call my hairdresser because I have a class that starts this Saturday. I tell her I have to reschedule my appointment for later that day and could she possible reschedule me. She told me yes, but that she had some appointments to close together and that she look at her schedule and get back with me for an appointment later on that day. It was my understanding that she was to let me know "when" later on that day.

Okay, I call her today and she's like "your appointment isn't until February". Okay, I was like stunned, but I said okay, the longest I'm willing to go is 16 weeks. Plus she doesn't have my relaxer in stock anyway...so now I'm thinking she isn't really up on her job and maybe I should just forget going to her.

I just started going to the shop anyway. I've always done my own hair, but I'm not about to put a lye relaxer in my own head. I don't trust anyone else so my only option is to either go natural or wait February.

Even if I would have shown up this Saturday, she wouldn't of had my relaxer!! Whats up with that??

So, should I wait until February 15th and make my appointment like now or just resort to growing out my relaxer and leave the salon alone.

I mean we are always talking about "be able to take care of our own hair". I just don't want to deal with this again, I was looking forward to getting my hair relaxed this Saturday and then attempting to go 16 weeks the next time.

I'm I overreacting or being unreasonable?? It's not like I had a back up plan. /images/graemlins/blush.gif

Hi Nita4, /images/graemlins/wave.gif

Is it possible that you could find another hairdresser that uses your relaxer and could do your touch-up sooner? They must be one heck of a busy salon not to be able to do your hair before Feb. I can't really tell you if you should go natural or not sweetie. That's a decision that only you can make. But should you decide to do it, I wish you good luck. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was thinking the same thing. Try another hair salon. If you don't want to go natural I don't think you should have to. I probabaly would find a slaon that's not quite as busy. I've been to some good salons and usually they're pretty quiet in the middle of the week. I try to make my appointments for a weekday. Are you sure your hairdresser doesn't have ANY days free until late February? /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: I\'m a little peeved, need direction...

Hey ladies,

She is the only operator in her salon. And does one head at a time, so I normally book in advance and on the weekends because I'm at work during the week. Honestly, I have a fear of looking into other salons and I really don't have the time to interview a stylist. Most of the ladies I know either do their own hair or they are natural. Not to mention the horror stories from this board of ladies who went to "new" salons. She is good and cares about hair health.

It's not really a matter of not wanting to go natural, it's something that I've been contemplating. Because I don't like being dependent on a hair stylist. And because I missed up my own hair previously, I don't want to repeat that mistake again.

I'm not sure about her schedule, I'll have to check back after Saturday. She was busy with someone yesterday and I didn't want to take their time. Hopefully, she'll have something available before late February.

Hi Pebbles!! I use a Dudleys lye conditioning mild relaxer. She normally orders in advance. Not to many people use Dudley's. I experienced absolutely no burn and my hair felt wonderful afterwards. I think I'm gonna have to wait...

Re: I\'m a little peeved, need direction...

Good luck Nita4,

I hope you don't have to wait to much longer. It would be a shame for your hair to start breaking because you couldn't get an appointment on time. Whatever you choose to do, I wish you the best of luck. If you do decide to go natural, will you transition, or go crazy like I've done on occasion and just cut it all off? /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: I\'m a little peeved, need direction...

Girl, hush...my hair better not start breaking /images/graemlins/laugh.gif I would probably transition. I just absolutely hate depending on people. That is what makes me so /images/graemlins/mad.gif There are a million and one salons out there - but I don't know anyone who goes to them. Even at church most of the women are natural or have some type of weave. I don't know what their real hair looks like!! Oh well...

Re: I\'m a little peeved, need direction...

If you can you should just wait. I've found in the past when I go somewhere else cause I couldn't wait...I've always regreted it. If you're not going to go natural, try Adrienne's method of S Curl on the roots to keep it moisturized, to minimize breakage until you can get there on the 15th.

Re: I\'m a little peeved, need direction...

LOL,

Nita4, your hair will not break, in the name of Jesus! What devil in hell possessed me to even think that, I'll never know! The darn cold has been affecting my brain... /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'m a little peeved, need direction...

You know Sweetcocoa we must be on the same wave length...because I was just thinking about that...regreting it because I couldn't wait. And I did get my S-Curl out last night.

But then again the health of your hair does inspire me to go natural. And to me that is more important then length, the length will come eventually. Your hair is beautiful!! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: I\'m a little peeved, need direction...

Hi Nita,

It sounds like your beautician needs to get organized...maybe she could use a good palm pilot. /images/graemlins/smile.gif It's things like having a direct conversation with someone and come back and it's like the conversation never took place that concerns me. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif Is this really someone that you want to continue to be with for a long time? Maybe you should look for back up beautician or a new one all together. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

As far as strecting your relaxer farther, you are already going longer than you should with the time and I'm sure you don't want your hair to start breaking. It's going to be a matter of you making a decision as to what you want. Do you want to be natural or relaxed? Only you can make that decision. Many of us do our own hair at home but let me tell you, it's even more work because now YOU are the one that is focusing every bit of attention on the health of your hair. I think the main thing is making a decision between being relaxed or being natural, because once you do that you can then move forward. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: I\'m a little peeved, need direction...

Thanks Nita. I had a small problem with breakage when I first transitioned...but once I realized I had to keep the 2 textures similar as possible and the roots moisturized it was minimal. I also believe your natural texture and how straight your hair was from the relaxer makes a major difference(the further apart they are in texture...the more problem you have transitioning). Also my hair was so over processed and damaged I was terrified to relax and wanted to take a break from chemicals. Once I saw how shiny my new hair was growing in where it broke off I decided to stay natural.
