I\'m a hair idiot!!! HELP!!!!

newbie.gif

I havent been reading these boards long, but I need help.

Currently I'm trying to grow my hair and not relax it (last one was Feb 14). I don't have a specific hair regimen, I just shampoo, condition for 30 minutes and normally I apply a wet twist set to my hair on a weekly basis.

However, growing out my perm, going to the gym 5 days a weekand still looking good is becoming a difficult task.

So now I'm wearing my first ever sew-in weave

, but it's itching like crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anybody have any ideas or any regimens for my 4a hair? i dont know what to do or which products to use and i dont know how long i can keep up the itchies.

Re: I\'m a hair idiot!!! HELP!!!!

Ive tried braids one too many times....

I wore micros and braids for like 2 yrs and my hair seemed to grow and get thicker, but then i got my hair done one time and the crown of my hair seemed to break off...so i figured it was just a bad stylist.

i tried again in june and this time it seems that my back has broken off

so ive pretty much given up on the braids ideas

thanks for the response though

Re: I\'m a hair idiot!!! HELP!!!!

well you could try the brx braid spray by african royale it says it's for weaves, braids, and natural hair maybe that will help

Re: I\'m a hair idiot!!! HELP!!!!

Hello and Welcome to the board.
I used to wear extensions and had the same problem. I think it was because the scalp was not getting enough air to breathe. I also used to use the clip-on hair extentions as well, but I think they cause breakage.
I really wish I could help you resolve this issue. I know that since I've started washing my hair every other day, I don't have the itches any longer.
Keep checking back though because there are some well experienced gals on this board.

Good luck

Oh

I just thought of something,
I once used Organic Root Stimulator for itchy scalp. It's a cream in a small sprout bottle. Try it and see what you think.

welcome, honeydrop!

how long have you been wearing your weave? and how often have you washed it, or had it washed?

when your wore braids, how long did you wear them at a time? and how did you care for them? i only ask because i had so much success with the braids. maybe we could identify a reason that they didn't work.

Re: I\'m a hair idiot!!! HELP!!!!

I haven't worn a weave in ages and don't remember if I had itches. But I did wonder if the hair piece you're using might be synthetic...coz I think the ends would give me a prickly itch.

Anyway, I've heard rosemary tea as a rinse could help with itches. If you visit www.mountainroseherbs.com and look under hair care, I recall seeing a suggestion for using rosemary herb oil for relieving itchy scalp. Also an apple cider vinegar rinse is supposed to give relief. So perhaps if you did the Rosemary treatment from that website and then shampooed and finished off with an ACV rinse, you'd feel a remarkable difference.

How often do you wash your hair? A thought just crossed my mind: The only time I get itches on my scalp is if any hair products come into contact with it; be they leave-in sprays or oils. So could your products/sprays be to blame? Perhaps an allergy to something new? But if you haven't changed anything about your regimen and haven't upped your biotin intake...and you wash your scalp often enough to prevent sebum build-up...then I am at a loss.

Does sebum get distributed through our hair better when our hair is combed out than when braided against the scalp?

See, I'm thinking if that assumption is correct, then maybe you get more build-up of sebum on your scalp with a weave or cornrows or flat twists since the entire shaft the sebum is supposed to moisturize is right there. And that it is that build-up that causes the itches - assuming you have ruled out skin conditions and an allergy to hair products. That might explain why when your hair is out or in micros or single twists, you get less itching or none (I'm assuming you didn't have this problem with micros) since sebum is forced to travel farther away from your scalp, hence less build-up.

i wore my micros for a few months before i would get them re-done, but i would wash them often. they werent the problem...but when i would get cornrows or individuals with synthetic hair, i would wear it for about a month, washing it, but not as often as I would with micros.

i've had this weave less than a week. it will be a week this thursday.

Re: I\'m a hair idiot!!! HELP!!!!

I have a sewn in weave as well and before I found this board and didn't know about washing atleast weekly, I would get the worse itches. I mean the WORSE. HORRIBLE lol. Now since I wash weekly I've only been getting a little bit of new growth itches since I'm on week 4 post touch up.

From the information I've gathered on the board about sewn in weave, you should try Tea Tree Oil. I have a small bottle made by Hollywood Beauty. I mix it with a bit of a carrier oil like Coconut Oil (because applying it raw will burn) and apply it on the scalp.

You can also try Sulfur 8 which I haven't tried, but have read on this board that it's good for itches.

Hope that helps
