I'll be honest, all this growth is due to the vitamins

Nothing topical, added to my scalp gave me much length...maybe a lilly...

nothing i did, or a techniques, helped significantly for growth and thickness

its was all down to the vitamins, thats all i can say!

without them, i dont think hair is gonna grow much or get much (as fast) or thicker, unless your hair is fast growing anyway.

-biotin
-nac (n-acytel-cysteine
-multi
-flaxseed oil
-and b50 complex

all contributed to me getting to waistlength(ish) so quickly and properly!!!

anybody else think the same??

i'm not saying all the other healthy factors didnt help cos they really did!!!

frequent washing helped with length, but not thickness...my ends became thin

so for growth and thickness, the overall winner was biotin!

for maintenance, i would say water based products and also overnight oiling...

Congratulations CandyC i totally think the same! i keep my hair in a braided ponytail and each time i remove it it feels like it grows daily:eek: i cut down on the washing cause i m lazy even though i still only do cowash except for henna indigo where i do use poo. I havent used my mtg in a couple of months and the only thing i been taking religiously are my vits. i think i find the perfect combo in my siggy and perfect regimen that gives me the ultimate growth, hassle free and for a gurl on the rush and lazy like me:lachen:   . and i mostly substitute grease with oils, instead of greasing my scalp i oil it or before putting my scarf i oil it, grease is just for the ends now. I became a oil fanatic haha it reminds me i need to stock on wild growth hair oil, huil mascriti, amla oil, vatika oil, amnol, indigo, henna jamila lollllllll i m about to raid in indian store for real!!!:lachen:   i m in loooooooooooooove with Viviscal not by itself though but combined with all my other vits it just gave that extra humph and i started to experience growth spurts my head is always itching even in my bed i always have to scratch.

This is so not what I wanted to hear :( ....... I absolutely detest vitamins of any kind.....but I guess if I want to reach waist length this year I have to suck it up and start taking 'em.

Does anyone know if biotin or flaxseed oil makes you gain weight?

Biotin will help actually help you burn calories and bodybuilders Swear on Flaxseed oil to help them burn fat also...I used to train really hard.

Flaxseed oil is a !GOOD! fat to have.:yep:

Hey. Wow thats great! I wish I had the dedication to keep take them daily!
I havent read through all the posts and so somebody may have asked...how has this affected the hair on the rest of your body? Cheeky question I know but thats one of the reason i dont take supplements either...lol

Thanks
Uzz

well my body is in tip top condition!!

my skin is so soft and smooth

my skin is very clear, (just my trademark freckles left) all my scars have gone, as in razor cuts from 6months ago, to acne scars

i have lots of energy

and i just feel great

i sleep very well and wake even better.

these are the only vits i wil ltake though, anything else will be liquid or milkshake form

:)

I think this may be true for me also. I seem to get a lot of new growth when I take my vites consistently but the thick crazy newgrowth is what usually makes me slack off of them! I mean, really. I'm not even 5 weeks post and I know I look like I need a relaxer STAT! That's also the same reason I slacked off of the MTG when I tried it and the BT...too much newgrowth too fast and I have 4b...4c...4z...something crazy! One little spot at the nape is soft and wavy and the rest is thick, dry, coarse, and kinked up.

I apologize if I'm venting. I want the extreme growth...I just need help in dealing with it when it does grow.

I remember reading one of your older post when I'd first joined and I thought that you attributed your growth to eating lots of fish. Did you change it up and notice more growth with vitamins than fish?

That's my concern with the BT. When I get my order I'll take it slow and see how it goes.

Thanks for sharing, that's good to know. I've been on a vitamin kick for the last 2 weeks consistently, in my siggy. But I'm also using Boundless Tresses faithfully in conjunction, I've only been using it for about 5 days but I can tell it's going to do my hair some good.

The Hair Skin Nails vit I take has 3000mcg of Biotin if I take 3 a day, I've been alternating between 3 and 2 a day with my multi-vit once and my NAC pill once or twice a day. Once I'm out of this brand of Hair Skin Nails vit I'm going to get either a different brand or just grab up a 5000mcg bottle of Biotin. I'm torn because I believe the combo pill is helping with my skin being so clear, along with a change in my external regime.

I notice you say alot to take NAC on an empty stomach, my bottle says to take it preferrably with a meal, is there something about taking it on an empty stomach that's better or does your brand just tell you that?

when i was on my protain deit of fish and baked chicken myhair was off the chain! I cannt wait to start back up on it! Im trying get 10 inchs this year

I think it is really good stuff. I got my first bottle last year and I am still working on it BECAUSE after about 2-3 weeks, I'm having too much new growth. :perplexed

I'm about to commit to the BT and the vites and give up on trying to stretch and relaxe my hair when my new growth gets to the point where I can no longer handle it. I'll be looking for a bottle of the NAC today, too

this has also been my experience. i'd have to agree 100% -- with a small caveat.:) it's the combination of internal & external care that results in optimal, healthy, long, thick, hair.

hair growth is essentially an internal biological process and vitamins, minerals, amino acids (or good quality food:) are the only things that will effect hair from the inside out -- increasing the growth rate, making strands thicker, smoothing texture & sheen.

that's not to say that quality hair products & hair care/styling don't play a role, because they do. the main role they play is in retention of hair that is growing from your scalp -- ie keeping it from breaking, keeping it moisturized, keeping it tangle free, keeping it protein-balanced and the like. so you achieve a grow, grow, grow, grow cycle, not a grow, break, grow, burn, grow, over-process cycle.

if i had a truly balanced diet, vitamin supplements wouldn't be necessary. but i know good and well the way i eat, that's not going to happen:lol: i've narrowed down my vitamin essentials to:

nutri 100 (vitamin shoppe multivitamin)
msm 1000 (vitamin shoppe)
super biotin 5000 mcg (puritan's pride)
silica plus by kal (i buy at vitamin shoppe, it's made by kal)
whey tech protein shake (vitamin shoppe)

vitamin shoppe & puritan's pride seem to have the best bang for the buck, so i usually buy from them. but i always got my eye out for a better deal:D

with vitamins/supplements i get a little over 5 in a year. without i get a little over 4 in. a year. also i notice my hair is smoother, sheenier ... it's still nappy:D ... but the individual strands are thicker & smoother, not as rough & dry to the touch. so for me to get to my hair goals optimally, vitamins are essential.

I have a question. Would you mind giving me a breakdown of each supplement and how many times a day you would take them? Also, how many tablespoons of the Flax Seed Oil did you take per day? TIA

Thanks! what are all the benefits of taking this pill?

Cysteine, N-acetyl cysteine (NAC)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Cysteine is a non-essential amino acid that can be manufactured in the liver. It is obtained in the diet from beans, brewer’s yeast, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, dairy products, eggs, fish, garlic, legumes, meat, nuts, onions, red peppers, seafood, seeds, soy, whey, and whole grains. N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is a modified form of cysteine. NAC helps the body make the antioxidant enzyme glutathione.

ROLE FOR ANTI-AGING:

Cysteine may help to diminish the effects of aging, protect against heart disease and cancer, boost the immune system, promotes metabolism of fats and production of muscle tissue, aid healing after surgery, promote hair growth, and prevent hair loss. It is also known to work synergistically with vitamin E and selenium as an antioxidant, protecting against the damaging effects of radiation, acetaldehyde, acrolein in tobacco smoke, alcohol and environmental pollutants.

Is taking n-acytel-cysteine the same as taking L-cysteine?

L-cysteine is a conditionally essential amino acid, one of only three sulfur-containing amino acids, the others being taurine (which can be produced from L-cysteine) and L-methionine from which L-cysteine can be produced in the body by a multi-step process. Cysteine plays a role in the sulfation cycle, acting as a sulfur donor in phase II detoxification and as a methyl donor in the conversion of homocysteine to methionine. Cysteine also helps synthesize glutathione, one of the body’s most important natural detoxifiers. N-acetyl-cysteine is the acetylated form of L-cysteine, which is more efficiently absorbed and used.54-64

After reading this thread and looking at Candy's hair I went straight to the store yesterday when I got off work and stocked up on some Biotin, Flax Seed Oil and Msm. Combination of vits plus BT, surely I should have some crazy growth...soon right...:perplexed. Ya'll tell me I'm right, I have to believe I'm right.

Sniff, hair....grow, please.

NAC when it breaks down is pretty much the same as L-Cysteine but I chose the NAC because it's absorbed & released better and it's safer to take continuously over a period of time. I believe you can only take L-Cysteine in spurts.

sounds like a good plan! but be forewarned- BT will give you more immediate results, whereas vitamins need time (anywhere from 2-6 months) to build up enough in your body to make a difference in your hair...soooooooo, depending on your body, you should be having some PHENOMENAL growth come june or july! :D happy hair growing!

I think Vitamins contribute to my hair growth, as well.

All I know is that nails and hair are on a roll. My manicure and touchup times roll around way too fast.

I take MSM crystals (a teaspoon), 1 g Lysine, a daily multivitamin and vitamin c.

That is not much compared to what some take, but something must be working right over here.

I stopped using any topical growth aids and my hair is still growing pretty fast, as far as I am concerned.

I take Lysine because I found a thread where some ladies were raving about it. I bought a big bottle and I am trying to finish it now. I may try another amino acid, like cysteine, next.
