does it mean you've got the heat on your flatiron too high?

I'm asking b/c the last time I had my hair flatiron I noticed it had a *smell* to it, and I'm wondering if that's indicative of too high heat. Anybody know?

TIA

I wonder about this, too.

Cuz sometimes...I swear it smells like a self cleaning oven. Even if my hair is super clean...it still smells that way sometimes.

The only time I don't have that smell is if I go to a salon.

Yeah having the flat iron too high may be it. When I used to use my roommates CHI, but hair used to smell BURNT. But I promise ya, ever since I've gotten my Sedu, I have had the flat iron all the way up to the highest possible setting and I don't get that burning smell at ALL on my hair. My hair smells just like the conditioner that I used to wash my hair with.

Mines too. My hair never smells burnt with my sedu.

I notice that is a characteristic of cheaper irons. But then again I keep my plates clean.

same here. i don't get the burnt smell with my sedu and it's always on the highest setting.

if you smell like smoke, it's too hot.

You may just need to clean the flat iron plates, sometimes they'll hold the smell of an oil or product you've used on your hair.

I once made the mistake of flat ironing with MTG on my scalp...dear God, the iron smelled for weeks, even after numerous cleanings. I finally just threw it away. :perplexed

I have a chi and I get that funky smell too on clean hair!! Dont know why??

OT: Suerte your hair is soo pretty!!

It just smells like....hair. :perplexed Really strong. I've never smelled my (clean) hair before and last time it was flatironed it just had this...unique smell. I was just curious b/c I am getting a relaxer tomorrow and I want to make sure the heat's not too high. Thanks for the replies!

It's probably dirty, old, burnt product burnt onto the iron rubbing onto your hair.

Clean thsoe plates really well with some alcohol.
